Pioneer AVH-3500BHS head unit resetting...

Totally stumped! I purchased a Pioneer AVH-3500BHS head unit and had it professionally installed into my 2011 Rav 4. The unit started resetting itself occasionally. It was always when the car was off and turned on. I took it back to the installer and he couldn't figure out why it was doing this. It is odd because it doesn't happen every time I turn off the car. He connected the unit directly to the battery and thought for sure that would solve the problem. Unfortunately, that was not the case and it keeps happening. It has reset itself 3 times in the past week. Somebody please HELP!!!

If the yellow wire is connected directly to battery and it is still resetting then the unit likely has an internal issue.

Sorry Paul, I failed to mention the first course of action was replacing the unit and it is happening with the replacement. This might be a stupid question, but I noticed when I first got the vehicle, when the car was turned off, there was no power to the cigarette chargers (not sure what these are called now). Does it have something to do with the way Toyota is making there cars now? Like I said, it's a fairly new car, 2011. I can't figure this out and it's driving me nuts. It happened again yesterday.

is it resetting itself? or shutting off and back on (remembering all your setting ect ect) i'd check the fuses in the car and in the back of the deck. also check what he has done with the handbreak wire. make sure reset button isn't pushed in.

It is actually resetting itself losing all of the setting. We actually checked all the fuses and the handbrake wire.

How about the ground? Is it to the factory harness? If so, try running it to bare steel.

are you using one of those adapter plugs? sometimes the pins get loose in them. I use bullet connectors.
