That driver board was meant to be just replaced.

Would be nice, and I see how that would be simple to just pull the whole board, but I'm sure it is not cheap to replace.

Just thought I'd update this thread. Since my amp blew I've been doing a lot of research and learning about amp design and repair. After several successful repairs and learning the required knowledge and techniques, I've decided it's time to repair the atomic.

Its getting a bunch of new output transistors, 4 new 1/2 bridge driver IC's (only need 2 but better to replace all 4), and all new output resistors with 1% tolerance. Other than that the power supply appears to be in proper working order, so after going over a couple other areas that have "prior repair" to make sure they are good, the amp should be operational as soon as the IC's come in the mail.

There is just a couple things I wanna verify before I put in the new transistors. Will probably install them tomorrow.

That's great! The base concepts used in the power supply and amp are used in other areas of electronics. If you're like me it will be addicting and you'll eventually want to roll your own. Looks like there was a lot of damage from your pics. Output fets, power supply fets, drivers... wow

Thanks for the words of confidence guys... I've learned an awful lot over the last 5 months.

I got lucky Kev, the power supply appears to be good. That pic is just of the output section. Everything removed was not necessarily bad. Only about 7 of the outputs, but as you know... if one goes you have to replace the entire parallel group (or at least should, lol) and 2 of the 1/2 bridge driver IC's. I just wanna bring it back to as close to new as I can afford to do. I'm glad the supply stage was good, those transistors are on back order for weeks. I'm going to go over them (and the 12 rectifiers) one last time before I power it up, but should at least have the power supply up and running without protect light by weekend. Won't be able to fully power it up until I get the IC's for the audio board.

Words of wisdom there. Quick story: I recently repaired a $10,000 Baldor motor drive as a favour for a friend. I found 2 of the 3 output IGBTs (transistors) were blown and he decided to save money and replace just the two (they were $550 each). After two days back in service the last one blew and destroyed all of them this time. An expensive lesson to learn.

I think you've got this one first time.
