Ok, so far this is what i've gathered:
(note: this has been cross posted for more replies:
http://www.caraudioforum.com/vbb3/sh....php?p=1730290 )

Seems like new 6.5" components for the front will be a very good upgrade so:
</font>
 • JBL, Oz, Dynaudio, and Morel are brands that have been suggested. I'll look into these, hopefully they aren't insanely expensive </font>
 • Adire Koda 6.5" woofers have been suggested. And the price is really good on those (from an online source here in the lower mainland anyways). So I might check those out. Anyone ever heard them?</font>
 • Run atleast 50x2watts for an amp.</font>
 • Do I really need to replace all 4 speakers? front and back? And can I just replace the woofer, while leaving the tweater stock?</font>
As for Subs:
</font>
 • The 10" performing better then 12" is apparently a myth.</font>
 • Possibly look into using a 10" and crossing over high frequencies. Does this mean I need a seperate cross over other then what the Alpine 9847 has?</font>
 • Spend more money on the midbass (6.5") rather then the subs. Buy type-s instead of type-R.</font>
 • A sealed enclosure seems to be the most suggested. But both ported(vented?) and sealed have been mentioned.</font>

if you are referring to the alpine cda9847...it has no crossover section... just a non fading sub output,and if you want it to bang a little , a properly tuned ported box is the way to go, regardless of your sub choice in my opinion.

Interesting, a non-fading sub output. So how does the deck know what frequencies to send to the sub?

^ I agree

Also the 6500D on a single DVC will give you lots of control.

Investing in a strong mid bass woofer up front will help bring the bass forward.

I've always thought with a sub you only want the lowest frequencies. Or does it just not reproduce the higher frequencies (or not enough to actually hear)? Or do I still need a crossover somewhere

Update: Scratch that last comment. Just noticed there is a built in crossover in the amp. I guess that answers my question.
