Question About Amps

What is the difference between different channel of amps (For example, there are 2 channel amps and 5 channel amps)

Also how do you know if an amp is compatible with different subwoofers?

Also is it possible for one amp to power 1 subwoofer and the in car speakers

2 channels is just your left and right

4 channels is your left and right plus front and back

5 channels same as above with either a center speaker or sub output

For subs your getting into ohms law. What amps is rated for and what your subs ohms are.

There's a lot of excellent infomation found on JL Audio site regarding amps, subs, etc.,

So if the speakers are located on the doors and 2 channel amp would be fine?

Would you be able to use one amp for a subwoofer and the speakers?

HI,

If your just planning running two speakers only then just get a two channel with maybe a built in crossover to make things easy. IMO I would get another amp just for the sub either a 2 channel or mono block that will suit your needs ie. bridges down to 1ohm, 2ohms, 4 ohms.

What kind of sub are you planning on using? Single Voice coil SVC or Dual Voice Coil (DVC)?

A DVC d2 will result in either 1ohm or 4 ohms
A DVC D4 will result in either 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

What equipment are you looking at to get?
