Yay we get to listen to boring programming. :(

Being that it's Canadian operated, CBC will have part ownership in this. Know what that means? Here's a breakdown:

-At least eight original channels will be produced in Canada.
-A maximum of nine foreign channels may be offered for each Canadian channel.
-At least 85% of the musical selections and spoken word programming broadcast on the Canadian channels must be Canadian.
-At least 25% of the Canadian channels must be in the French language.
-At least 25% of the musical selections on the Canadian channels must be new Canadian musical selections.
-A further 25% of the selections must be by emerging Canadian artists.

Does this make me want to switch from US programming? Whatcha think?

well personally i would not mind supporting canadain music industry. just as long as they get rid of the french stuff.

you can bet that alot of the new hardware will be more diy installer friendly, wireless fm mods, farmer like antenna installs through the door frame will be commonplace. people will be going to wall mart buying the hardware and installing it in the parking lot in 10 minutes, calling the tollfree 1800# on the way home or going online and registering it themselves

I have had Sirius for over 2 years. You guys will love it.

We still have at least 150 days before it will acutally be licensed. Sat radio will remain "elite" for a little while yet. It's hard to say if Sirius and XM will end up doing all that. Skies are looking very "Grey" above Edmonton.

Pioneer Guy 06-19-2005 10:37 PM

Are you kidding? Of course they're going to do whatever it takes to launch it in Canada! The satellites are already up, there are probably 100,000+ grey market units in Canada that they've already lost revenue on. They don't want to lose any more.
Remember, this opens up opportunity for not only mobile electronics but home electronics as well. Later this fall, Pioneer will have home receivers that are satellite radio & iPod compatible.
We as Canadians adopt technology far faster than Americans do on a per-capita basis so bank on XM & SIRIUS launching in Canada as soon as they can.

And doesn't alpine already have a head unit with a receiver built in? If it catches on as I think it might, that might be a new trend.
I've also heard rumors about an iPod with a sirius tuner built in.
