Remember, this opens up opportunity for not only mobile electronics but home electronics as well. Later this fall, Pioneer will have home receivers that are satellite radio & iPod compatible.
We as Canadians adopt technology far faster than Americans do on a per-capita basis so bank on XM & SIRIUS launching in Canada as soon as they can.

I believe Yamaha already has a home receiver with XM built in.

have to agree with bootleg, there are still a lot of hurdles as far as .."sign me up" is concerned.hardware providers will have to come out with canadian only hardware that will only recieve canadian content , whereas the us versions will recieve both signals, and we will get 80 channels max??? the us versions look a whole lot more appealing to me. there are still court challenges to come , and that could take months.

as far as satellites go...xm launched their 3rd satellite at the end of march, and it will cover the east of north america, and xm1 and xm2 will be re-positioned to cover the west.they are going to split the bandwidth up and crank them both up by 40% to cover the spotty areas in the western us and canada. should take 6 to 8 months to complete all that. as far as sound goes the xm has much better sound quality than its sirius counterparts imo.

I heard that they are launching a new sat for Xfm very soon

Do you know if they will be using both sats to expand the number of stations the have or will they keep just one sat and keep the same line up? </font>[/QUOTE]No idea, sorry

I do not think the content will change, the CRTC just wanted Canadian Content. The same goes with Sat TV will be the same as Sat Radio.

Thoughts?

We are doing some Dealership work now installing OEM add ons to the OEM decks

Hey claudio....we gunna get receivers at FS????

One thing about XM and I am sure SIRIUS will do the same............anyone that has a US serial number on their unit won't be allowed to sign up for the Canadian service................and they are going to crack down on address's again............so if you live in Canada.....................it's going to be very hard to subscribe to the US service once it takes effect........................

MIKEONE 06-21-2005 09:10 AM

as far as content, the crtc allowed an 8 to 1 ratio, which means that you will need one 100% canadian produced channel for every 8 us produced channels, and according to my inside guy, xm only has enough room for 80 channels without stealing bandwith, and they dont want to do that. as far as cracking down on addresses, i dont think that will happen cuz the crtc basically lied to xm already, so xm wont do them any favors.

That is the plan....I am sure that the Canadian version would get some US channels.....just like your Sat TV......it is not all Canadian is it?
