Setup Help

I noticed today when I was driving to work today that the only bass that is loud is punchy notes.
If I turn on say a hip-hop track there is a good amount of bass vibrating the trunk like crazy.
But anything that isn't a short punch doesn't really play out at all and it just seems to drop off to no where.
My crossover settings are set at 80Hz with a 24Db roll off for the sub channel on my alpine deck.
And the Sub Frequency **** on the amp is set to the lowest it will go 50Hz (and it is supposed to rolloff 24Db per octive).
And the Subsonic filter is on (fixed at 36Hz).
I don't remember it being so noticable before and I am almost certain that there was more presence to the base before.
The sub is fairly new and I think I've had it for 2 or 3 weeks now.
The interior used to vibrate more and now any of those notes that would rattle the car just don't sound out.
I added polyfill to the box last night and made sure the screws where firmly screwed down.

^ is there a reason why you need to use two x-over for the subs? usually a 80hz 24 db/octave works well already. and filtering again at 50hz will loose most of the initial attacks on the bass notes and you'll get mostly the drome from it. also I would leave the subsonic filter off.
For insulation wise...... depends what subs your running. some subs works better in a bare box, and some subs needs some carpet underlays (2-3 walls) or fill it with dacron or fiberglass to sound linear.

The sub is an Image Dynamics IDQ12D2 wired in series to push a 4 ohm load.
The sub is rated to play in a box as small as 0.65 ft^3. My box is 0.85 ft^3.
I'll try turning off the Bass EQ on the amp and see if that makes any difference.
Or is better to use the EQ on the amp? I imagine it doesn't make a difference but if power was cut to the deck durning maintenance or something you'd have to re-setup the cross overs on the deck and it could be overlooked.

Well I do not have any mid-bass speakers so if I crossed them over lower then 80Hz I am going to lose a band of frequencies.
Mid-bass speakers would be nice but that isn't in the budget right now.
I'll be happy if I can just get the sub to now disappear on notes.

Argh...
My bass seems to become less and less by the day.
Tonight I pulled out the DMM to make sure the amp was seeing a 12+ volts and sure enough both of the +12V and Ground connections are seeing 14V+. So my ground wires haven't come lose or anything.
I am a little concerned something is damaged.
If either the RCAs or the amp was damaged would I notice these symptoms.
I had some music playing tonight at a lower volume when I was checking the amp with the DMM and all the bass notes are there they just do not play loud at ALL.
If both the RCAs and Amp are fine Could this be my box?
Or is my sub damaged?
The bass sounded clean but did not play out at all. if you turn the fronts way down you can hear the bass part but it is very faint.
