Single amp system?

Becuase the amp is not 2ohm stable when bridged.
Thanks
PS> Ive noticed many amps with built in xovers only go down to 50hz on the lowpass.... why is this is the amp is capable of producing 20hz?
Does this mean Ill have to get an external crossover is I want any kind of decent lows?

Don't get too hung up on power. The Eclipse makes 450w rms into a 2 ohm mono load on the sub channel and 300w rms into a 4 ohm mono load. With the right choice of speaker, the amp will come to life on the sub channel.
As far as the main channels go, if you THINK you need that much power in such a small car, do not go for it, if you KNOW that you need that much power, go for it. If your subs are going to be these big monster subs and have 3 times as much power as what we are talking about running them, then go for the big amp.
At the end of the day though, all the big amps in the world that you can install in that vehicle all need to have one thing. Current and your tiny little alternator just can't dish out the current that big amps need to operate to their designed capabilities.

Hey Turcotte,
i currently run a single amp system and its pretty descent i would have to say!
i have an Audison SRx5 running Focal 165v2's + Focal 100CV's wired in parallel (2 Ohm) on channels 1&2, while my rear Focal 690CA + Focal 5v2 wire in parallel as well (2 Ohm) on channels 3&4, and a Focal 33A as my sub on the 5th (sub) channel pushing about 180 watts rms. I have no worries with sound, power and clarity with this set-up

More power never hurts:
If you were a bass head you wont be thinking about running a single amp setup youd have a dedicated sub amp just for bass duties.
More power = more head room, less heat, higher efficiency.
You may not NEED the power, but having the power is not a bad idea. Mind you i do agree that electrical systems may prohibit higher wattage amps. However lots of people have used stock alternators with 800-1000 rms with no problem. a good solid battery, good sized wire (maybe a cap, but its just a bandaid treatment)

And as for the LP x-over that is cut off freq which means thats as high as you set it eg if you have it set at 50hz thats where it stops so the subs would see 0-50Hz and if you have it set at 100Hz then the subs well see 0-100Hz. What you are talking about is a SubSonic Filter and that one when set at 50 would cut out everything from 50-down.

I have really enjoyed the MB Quart amps in my car.
IMO a single set of 6.5" comps in that car with a sub would be plenty and the RAA4200 has enough power to run a high-quality comp set and matching sub with ease.

The Eclipse is also the new ICEPower class D circuit topology that you will see far more manufacturers jumping to next year. Currently Eclipse has used it for 3 years now, Alpine and Pioneer are now in their first year. It has opened a whole new avenue of amplifier to the marketplace. Nice and cool, efficent and they sound amazing at the same time.
