i got 1 - 6ft word for ya, trophies. if more trophies were given out to the lower categories, i think that it would be better for the entery level categories. and more competitive for the higher categories.

1-8th place. some guys pay 20 and go home with nothing, next show pays 20 more and goes home with nothing. after a while he stops paying 20 and stays home. get him a trophy to take home to show his family and his/her work is displayed on the mantle piece with some fancy lighting. guys take pride in what they have , even if its heinze 57 car. there are guys that just wanna be able to say, see i won something and not just a sunburn.

give a competitor a reason to come back, especially if its a newbie.
my 2 cents

By the way, one thing I forgot to add. We're not a for sure yet, but there's an import show at Sport Mart Place, and as long as head honcho approves, we'll be having an spl and sq soundoff in the parking lot outside the arena. It's the week after hot night in the city and will be on the 21st. I will keep everyone posted on whether it's a go or not, and give up all the nitty gritty when I know more.
Cheers.
Andre's 'Loops
Might be a bad weekend since Visions Electronics in Kamloops is having a sanctioned DBDrag / USACi event on August 21st.

Just a heads up for ya.

Do it on the weekend before and I'll be there fo sho. Maybe even bring both vehicles.

What would you guys like to see at soundoff? Girls in bikinis, video game challeges for cash prices, a newbie tuning clinics, etc...let me know.
~I agree. Trophies.
~1st, 2nd, 3rd and maybe a plaque for 4th.
~A copy of the scoresheet for the competitor.
~Andre's did this well......use a glass marker to classify competitors and post their scores on the windshield. It will give the rest of the field the ability to see who they're up against and what the scores to beat are.
~Lots of shwag....it doesn't have to be expensive....maybe just shirts, pens, hats, key fobs, lanyards, decals (dealers and manufacturers LISTEN UP. cheap easy advertising. Get your decals on these peoples cars but make em nice cause if they look like poo it's not going on my truck or at least not where anyone is gonna see it.)

A small decal...like an attendance decal would be ideal. A competitor can display the decals he gets from every show they particiapte in. I know I would display them.

Defro...you should have had one made up for your show. Something like "I went to Andre's Summer Stereo Comp and all I got was this lousy sticker" sticker. LOL I would have displayed it. PROUDLY.

I would have had that alarm/starter shwag if I woulda showed my sasquatch back instead of those two peach fuzz guys. Back in my "party till she's cute days" I ran into chewbacca backed females that coulda won that comp hands down. And yes.....they were Okanagon girls. after 9pm.

Your guys' event was one of THE best I have attended ever. The turnout was awesome. The rules kicked ***. The attitude rocked. The shwag was impressive. The rain came out (YAAAAA) then the sun came out (boooo) and my skin turned a brilliant shade of red. Quite pleasant for the immediate drive home after the event to make it to work on time the next day. NOT. Nothing like going to work in the same clothes you wore for the drive back and working a 9-10 hour shift.

But ya know what? If there's gonna be a 2nd annual Andre's Awesome Pounding Parking Lot Party can I pre-register now? That way I can be sure to make it down early enough the night before to take part in the festivities. Anyone ask Tim if he got matching scratches on his back that night.

If the SQ was watered down for less install points, it would most likely become he who has the best equipment wins. For example:

A guy buys 1 -12 inch sub in a box
$199 pair of seperates

If he runs a fuse, uses wire loom, tapes down the wires, carpets his amp rack, mounts his speaker decently he can be competive.

But if I buy an Alpine head unit with the hide away 700 eq ($1600). And Focal Utopia seperate ($1500)...I would have a huge advantage!

Maybe limit classes by cost of equipment?

Also show like overhaulin', pimp my ride etc. Show case automotive excellence. I believe in the pro classes, system design, layout, creativity, ease of maintence, should be factors in the installation.

In SPL, you can have a farmer sub-box in the back seat, use the seatbelt to hold it in. Hit a number and win. It sounds simple, but how does that benefit our industry? At least with installstion beening part of the competiton process, you can show case your abilities. Since almost none of the people making comments on this post, with the exception of defro and lethal, have not come out to SQ show in 2 years, you should try it. The system I described above, you CAN be competitive.
I admit that color coding your wires under the carpet, and using matching heat shrink to terminate your wiring might seem extreme, but I want to place top 3 in the world. If I was the in stock car racing, I still have to play by there rules to play. Just food for thought...I welcome comments.

Going back to the backseat sub-box guy...if he does the install himself that's great, its how I got started. But how does that style of customer benefit your store? All he cares about is price of equipment. That's a losing battle for MOST retailers in todays market. In some classes you would get bonus points for kickpanels, over mounting door speaker in the factory hole. We know that kickpanels usually sound better, but if a customer gets a bonus point for them. He thinks wow, those guys really know there stuff. I even got points for it! How can I get more points. I do agree that it some classes, this is alittle high. In IASCA, I want to compete in Ultra Pro class. But you need over 30 bonus points to be competitive. In turn though, they offer a Street Pro class that show cases basic install techniques. By the way in this class I have gotten perfect scores for 2 years, with less than a $1000.00 budget. The score are met, it is all SQ. The guy at castlegar is a little extreme but, he trying to push pros to the next level. The changes I have made from his feedback are awesome, yeah the wires are a little over the top, but I like it. Just like the spectre under the hood wiring kits, its just pretty but it makes you go "wow". I think it places value on an installer with good install skills. We need poeple to realize that it is a skill. Cheers...
