which speakers to choose

i am in a situation where i want to change my stock speakers.
apparently i can go up to 6.5 inches in the front door panel where as the stock rite now is a 4 x 6 and my rear speakers are 6 x 9s

i am considering not a high end speaker system, but something that sounds really good for a decent price.

i have a choice between the jbl power series speakers
i am offerd the jbl p650c for $100 and the p953 for $82.50.
should i go for that?...are the power series good speakers?

or should i go with infinity kappas (I have seen really good reviews on them)which is much more expensive, but is it that noticably different the sound quality between the jbl's and infinity's?

The kappas I can get them for about $225 for the 6.5 components and about $200 for the 6 x 9s.

Or should i go with the infinity reference series for about the same amount of money i would be spending on the jbls.

I would leave the stock 6x9's in the back...and use the money to get the best sounding components(to you) that you can afford for the front. Most stock 6x9's are fine for rear fill, and can always be upgraded later. The JBL power and Infinity Kappa are both good sounding, though you will get a lot of polarized opinions. Personally, if i were spending a bit more, I'd look to their higher end models...perfects, gti, or possibly some Alpine x series, Polk audio, CDT, Focal mid range models, or even Morel's lower lines...though some of these can still be very expensive. The prices you're getting the JBL's is very good though, and depending on your wants and needs may do it for you...I think JBls sound good for the money.

Are you planning on running the speakers off the deck or amplifier?

im getting the 4 channel JBL GTO1004 amp
100 watts RMS x 4 channels at 4 ohms
or
150 watts RMS x 4 channels at 2 ohms
also getting that at a cheaper price of $150 + tax

yah i like that idea of leaving the stock rear and spending a bit more on the fronts.
the only thing i don't like about the perfects is apparently their mid bass isn't really good.
it starts at i think 65 hz...not sure:S. thats wut i heard, i don't know, if someone can tell me otherwise, i would consider the perfects as well.

im also considering adding those $10 flea market tweeters to whatever speakers i get and plan on mounting the tweeters to the panel between the door and windsheild while mounting the component's tweeters by the side mirror panel just for the added pleasure of hearing those high frequency notes.
is that a bad idea?

Get a good pair of component speakers for the front, use the amp, add the rear speakers later. I have one remaining pair of MB Quart Premium components left that would work for you. There are at least 8 people here on CCA that purchased these speakers from me that are quite happy with what they hear in their car. The MB Quart tweeters can be bright to some people (which it seems you want based on the adding an extra set of tweeters idea (bad by the way)) but can always be turned down.

^^those quarts are a great deal and they sound awesome. Forget the cheapo tweets, you won't need them anyway. Later you can add a sub, and quart 6x9's...and you're good to go...
