Tweeter blown?

I have posted a few times here for advice.I bought a boston 6.43 set from ebay.I was installing it today and thought I would make sure the speakers work before putting in the truck.I hooked them up one at a time to my small shelf system. The tweeters have no sound at all.I was wondering if it needs to be hooked to a crossover to get sound?

maybe try measuring across the tweeter terminal to see if it has a open circuit or if it reads approx 3.3 ohms etc, if its open the tweeter is defective.

If its not open... it should work. It'll work with no x-over, but its a good idea to put a 2.2mf-4.7 cap on it to be safe.

If the volume was low and not playing something crazy bass heavy then one is reasonably safe seeing if a tweeter is at least alive this way.

If there was NO sound at all then I would suspect they were pooched before you started.

thanks for the replys,I had them looked at today and they are opened.I tried them at very low volume just to see if they worked, they didn't make a sound when I hooked them up.I would guess the guy who sold them to me knew what he was dong.
