I look forward to your teachings. JL amps have tightly regulated power supplies that's why they operate the way they do. Unregulated amps on the other hand, I'm looking forward to what I can learn from you.

See ya on the 14th.

The only benefit I can see for upgrading to the Alpine would be that you could buy another sub and hook it up for a 2 ohm load. You would still be underpowering it though as each sub would be seeing 250W RMS max. If you are thinking of going Apline and adding another sub you may as well find an amp that will give the subs their full power.

My Rockford amp that I am currently running has I think 300RMS for 2 Ohm and 150RMS for 4Ohm.

The alpine amp is 500RMS for 2Ohm and 300RMs at 4 ohm.

And the JL 500/1 does 500W at 2 or 4 ohms....it will work fine for now and if you get a second sub.....it just won't make more power into the lower load.......

Ahhhhh, I see. Then yes the apline would be a good fit for you.

Or you could hunt that JL 500/1 down again. $550 amp for $200, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

I'll take a guess here.....it's all about the impedance rise in the driver as the frequency rises. Hooking up a 4ohm load to an unregulated power supply type amp is probably the best compromise short of a JL style uber-regulated P.S.

The benefit of the unregulated type is it's ability to supply more juice as input voltage and current supply rise.....the impedance rise on the driver side balances that out to a certain extent but that also helps with cone motion control ie. regulating the effect of back E.M.F.

I'm sure the nitpickers will be here soon to correct me.....
