Try to use the post office for shipping. It's the same for us on the US side.

HEre is what one needs for shipping wih UPS
UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada

Bottom line, if you do it and it be more advantagous then USPS then the declared value needs to be below 40$ canadian, you need to call as soon as you get the tracking number and give your CC to not paye the bond fee. After that all you pay is taxes on the item and 7$ of Preparation Charges.

The advantage is it's faster, over all USPS is less hassle.

General rule of thumb is everyone at the border is going to try to rape you one way or the other. You think shipping to Canada is bad? Try Mexico...on average the shipping rate is 3x what the product costs if you call up some online retailer.

simply put: "free trade" is a joke.

use USPS for the most hassle free experience. UPS, DHL and FedEX are faster, but you pay waaaaay too much money for their brokerage.

Oh yeah and for all the "support your local business" people that come in and cry about where I choose to spend my money, it's very simple.

You need to stay competitive in pricing...

If I can find the product I AM LOOKING FOR locally that's competitively priced I will ALWAYS buy local.

Just remember, I can ballpark math in my head very well...and if something from the US after duties and taxes (not the rip off UPS fees) is still overpriced (over $20+) you're not getting my money.

Many of the dealers here in Canada think they can charge whatever they feel like simply because they are the only ones selling the product. That's not cool....in my 'hood we call that taking advantage of someone.

BTW this is not directed at anyone in particular. I just get fed up with those who make it sound like shopping in the US is somehow "wrong"

Never use UPS when buying from the States. I bought some small parts for my H1 which came out to $50cad. Used the companies UPS account to save a bit and still got dinged another $68 for duty and taxes once the bill came in!!

If you are buying make sure they can ship by USPS with a tracking number.
