Back to the amp ratings, and some of you old school guys will agree, thats why I love old quality gear.A linear power 8002 was rated at 800x1 into 8ohms@11.4v.A newer amp claims its power at 2 ohms and 14.4v downhill with a tailwind!

* ok for you non history buffs.... I have the habit of refering to history/books/films/tv when making examples and I guess my references can be obscure or slip through the generation gap.
When I say don't drink the Kool Aid I'm refering to the JONE'S TOWN TRAGEDY wherein Jim Jones convinced his followers to drink poison Kool Aid rather than facing the fallout of his henchmen killing several people, including a senator, on a runway. In other words, what I am saying is don't believe other's BS -- just because someone says something is so, does not mean it is... trust your own experiance and intuition.

The key type of "extra conversions" to avoid are D/A and/or A/D conversions. For example, some surround receivers will convert an analoge signal to digital and then re-convert it back to analoge even in "direct" mode.

Isn't the basic premise of CSA to ensure that products are "safe" and will not catch fire? They don't test the "quality" of a unit. I remember watching the CSA inspector come in to "certify" some Parasound equipment years back... he daisy chained 10 pieces together, plugged them in, turned them on... waited 30 minutes and put a CSA sticker on them.
