Very very interesting move..

Sounds like a bad move to me. I am sure ALOT of competitors are gonna be extremely pissed that they now have to basically redesign the complete system. Not to mention the only ones that will be happy will be the ones that have, or are able to afford, JBL Crowns and such.
On an other note, I bet there will be alot of companies dropping sponsorship because they don't want to do a 6000W+ amp. Not to mention they couldn't even get one designed and produced for SBN.
Just my 2 cents

Instead of getting rid of quads, maybe they should start a class which wouldn't allow quads to compete in it. It really dosen't seem fare to me, to tell 85% of all their competitors that they can no longer compete with their curent systems that they spent countless hours and lots of money on, just to "level" the playing field. I dunno, maybe, after all the manufactuars, re-engineer, redesign, and re-tool, it MAY work out for the best, but who's to say, really???? well, who?

This is a FANFRIGGINTASTIC move, not only will it level out the playing feild, but I think ti will also help bring people into DbDrag because now Joe Blow with his 2 15" DVC's wont be afrid to play with someone with 2 15" quads and 16 amps. Most people can afford 4 or 8 amps btu 16 is getting WAY up there.
This will divide the people who can install and the people that can afford $50,000 in power.

IMO, this is a very bad move on Wayne's part... the whole concept of competition is to hit as high a number as possible, based on equipment, vehicle and design.
Let's review some of the changes in dB Drag rules over the last few years:
Frequency cap was changed from 100 hz to 80 hz. Why ? It was felt that SPL numbers were getting too high and this was a good way to bring the numbers down.
New mikes for meters - Why ? It was felt that SPL numbers were getting too high (Team BS - 177.7 dB) and this was a good way to get the numbers down. It is also widely believed that these new mikes for the meters were more accurate... granted, this may be true, but now we have multiple manufacturers building SPL meters that all seem to measure differently and rarely is one vehicle the same or close to the same on all of them. So which one is truly accurate ?
Now quad coils are banned from competition. Why ? I think for the same reason, to keep the numbers down. What's next ???? Like someone on the other forum said, "What's next, only single voice coils in certain classes ?". The product is out there, so why can't we use it ?
The idea of restructuring classes makes more sense, very much like automotive drag racing classes; Stock, Pro Stock, Bracket, etc... that way if you use certain equipment it puts you in a specific class. This to me makes more sense.
However, this is only my opinion, I am in no way attempting to pass judgement on or flame anyone. I am simply offering a view on how I see it.
Ultimately, it comes down to the competitor's knowledge of building and designing his/her SPL system. The equipment they use will undoubtedly be a deciding factor on how they fare out in competition, but the same can be said for any form of competition.
The main thing is still to go out and have fun. We all do this because we love car audio, whether it be SPL or SQ and just getting out to enjoy doing what we love is the most important thing, win or lose.
Once again, my two cents... I hope this helps, for what it's worth.

Apparently, this is a quote from wayne,
Quote from Wayne in chat:
[01:10] <wayne> I have decided (after a lot of consideration) that we must prohibit quad coil drivers.
[01:10] <wayne> These speakers have no market relevance and they are hurting our sport.
[01:11] <SPL2k> sounds great to me
[01:11] <Shedluv> Wayne, be sure to email Chris McSweyn and Crossfire, he will bow down and thank you for it.
[01:11] <SPL2k> lol
[01:11] <wayne> I have already spoken with most of manufacturers (who make quads) and they are all grateful.
[01:11] <SPL2k> all manufacturers will...the dont want to HAVE to build quads to be competitive
[01:11] <wayne> They hate it.
[01:11] <SPL2k> yep
[01:12] <wayne> Also, to be competitive, most competitors needed to run quads. And quads require 8 amps per driver.
[01:12] <Shedluv> I just remember that for a while Crossfire was leading the "ban quads" brigade
[01:12] <klucius> i guess, i will need some recones.. i wanted to try 8 amps anyhow...
[01:13] <wayne> It is so expensive to use quads. And, retailers don't really sale them. We must use Off the Shelf components in order to regain retail and manufacturer support.
It seems to me that he's doing a good thing, why? Because if you continue to **** of the manufactureres, they won't wanna give their support to db drag. This is kinda of like Wayne giving them something they've wanted. People can complain all they want, but if you really think about the future of the sport, it makes sense.
