When I first started out in audio, Tom Dewar used to do an A/B comparison between a Advent clock radio, and a HK Citation amp-preamp setup, played thru a set of Tannoy Ardens.
Took til my 3rd visit before I knew what to listen for, and it was barely perceptable.

That test is interesting, but how many of the testers were young females?....doesn't say.
Us poor old dudes are lucky if we can hear from 30-10k. Still gonna keep my 4ga wire on my home speakers to run 25 watts 4 1/2 feet tho. It just looks expensive...one day I'll upgrade to the blue stuff, and then maybe I'll really get to enjoy.

People can hear a difference when they want to hear a difference.
That is the problem with hearing - it is all perception. What you hear is what you perceive to hear. There are thousands of factors that can influece what you are hearing.
Are you
Hungry
Tired
excited
horny
drunk
stoned
bored
etc.

If you want to hear ayour $100/inch cable sound more 'airy' 'open' and 'detailed' and you are convinced taht it will. Then of course you will hear a difference.
This is the beauty of blind testing. You do not know which cable or component is the one you think will sound better. Therefore your brain and emotions will not influence you either way.

If someone wants to hear something they will. I spend 8hrs a day 5days a week in the hearing business (hearing aids not stereos)and I have witnessed this first hand.

I've been hauling around a 4 meter pair of Kimber Cable KCAG interconnect every where I go for the past 2 months. I keep trying to get the Nay sayers of the cable voodoo theory to DO this blind test.....it's like everyone is all of a sudden scared that they might HEAR a difference...

So it works on both sides, some people are afraid not to be able to hear a difference, some people are afraid that they may.

So...I"m going to continue to offer people the chance to try this Kimber cable in their car where-ever I go...

Actually -- I have -- with Rockford Gamma, Nordost, Kimber, Phoenix, garden variety 12 gauge, Home Dept. Outdoor extention cord (the orange 14 ga), Audio Quest and a whole bunch of others using a pair of Paradigm Studio 60's and a Luxman class A integrated worth $14k canadian retail. Level matched, there are differences in imaging etc, is it worth it? I guess the best answer is it depends on the person and how much the benefit of the wire is worth to you.

I've sat in Adams car and listened to his expensive cable vs his really expensive cable.

Very hard to explain the difference... but it's there and in this case would be worth upgrading.

I have a feeling that it's got more to do with wire material than construction. Some materials are better conductors and thus are going to give you a signal at the end of the cable which is much closer to the original signal where with a cable made with cheaper materials or poorer conductors the signal may be slightly lossy.

If there are no difference between cables... then all the cable would sound the same on this comparator disc..... wouldn't you think?
