Lightbulb what happened to Blaupunkt?

First off, hello everyone!

I have been out of the car audio loop for quite a while (early 1990's) and at that time Blaupunkt was the best alternative to Alpine (my system was in a box for years until I got a car worth putting it in)
what happen to them?
did they fall out of flavour or did they fall down technology wise?

any opinions welcome

cheers

randy

I'd say the other companies just began marketing themselves at a higher level then other companies. Taking sales and money away from companies like Blaupunkt causing them to fall to a point where they just couldn't afford to keep up with the other companies (such as alpine) and over the years they just fell into nothing. Also i could be wrong on this by i thought they had shut down for awhile and recently began making new products again in 2009-2010 area. Think I'm wrong on that last part i dunno.

Anyway that's my opinion.

I'm pretty sure the BLUEDOT lives - however according to Wikipedia, it was sold off from the Robert Bosch company in 2009 to Aurelias AG of Germany, up until then it had been a 100% holding of Bosch

Blau never had a really strong Canadian distributor - something that is essential for the success of any brand up here. I don't think they even have a distributor in Canada right now..

there's one shop in my area that used to only sell blaupunkt and clarion equipment. pretty sure that's about all they still sell. then again I have not been in there in maybe 2 years or so.

I remember when I bought my equipment it was all from specialty audio places. I think blaupunkt had a go with canadian tire for a year or so back in the early 90's but all the superior audio sellers quit selling blaupunkt because they could not sell it for as cheap as the canadian tire stores (I think they only sold one or two decks if I can remember). once that contract was done and canadian tire got out of it, I think blaupunkt kind of hung themselves for a while.
I remember my chicago cd player was $1400.... is there anything made now a days that comes even close to that price?

thanks everyone for the updates.... btw if I was still young and single and blaupunkt would still be one of my top choices

cheers
