dawgs, I do agree that there can be deals at B&M establishments, that will make the extra 100 you'd pay well worth it. But from all of the items I've purchased via the states (higher end audio), I have paid half of what a local retailer sells them for, tax, duty, customs all included.

I love how the B&M people on this forum preach about how wonderful B&M establishments are and how they would never screw you. That is a joke. I know there are good B&M establishments. But its a crap shoot just like online.

When my interest began in car audio. I went to 3 shops that were authorized dealers of certain mid to high end audio. Each and every one of them peddled how great there most expensive product was... yadda yadda yadda. They didn't listen to what I needed, they just wanted the big sale. I did eventually find a reliable business who offer good, objective advice.

In any industry, be it online or B&M, there are always those unethical, immoral people that want the dollar over the customer loyalty. With online its harder to know if they are being unethical, because you cannot see them or talk to them in person. Which does make it a bit more of a gamble. But if you find that reliable online website, that gives good service, cheap prices, soemtimes warranties, then why shouldn't I, as a consumer consider them?

I think my point in this is, there are crooks everywhere, and no matter if you buy from an online dealer or a B&M, you cannot go in ignorantly, or there's a good chance you will overpay for something you don't want or need.

Can't disagree with that statement.

To balance out all the recommendations for IndoAudio, it should be mentioned that they are not authorized dealers for nearly all of the brands that they sell (i.e. serial numbers may be removed, no factory warranty even in the US), and are even blacklisted on MTX's web site:

Here's an interesting read from the owner of LightAV.com regarding grey market car audio gear available online:

Part of the reason many people are turning online is because of the poor service that they received at their local B+M. They are paying the premium for the service and they just aren't gettting it. Not saying this is the case in most situations, but it does happen.

Part of the reason they are getting poor service at the B&M is that the level of employee they have it pitiful at best. I have worked for some real crappy people before, B&M and Big Box, my store is all about what they are not. So take away even more business and give it to people that are a clerk in another country is not much better. You may know what you want, but do they?

if it's coming from the US, you are paying more than just shipping, and the converted winnning bid amount in CND funds. once they declare a value to the shipment, you are paying tax, and a brokerage fee for the item.
