Wiring 2 DVC subs to mono amp- Is it possible??
#23
1- Yes that what i thought, 2-4 ohm subs can only be brought to 1 or 4 ohms, which makes sense. I could run 1 4 ohm L7, which would get me 2 ohms when VC's are wired in parallel, but that would be a waste of my amp.
2- No thats the thing, I know i want 2 kicker 12" L7's. I have a connection on a couple of the 4 ohm versions. But I have concluded that they will not work- I need the 2 ohm version if I want to run two L7's. I could only run 1 of the 4 ohm version L7 and that would be a waste of the amp.
Thanks again whosit, you really know what you are talking about lol.

Well you could run 2 of the 4 ohms but only at 4 ohms so your right.... you are wasting the power not to mention the subs are rated at 750 wrms right? so way under powering. your only solution is to either go 2 ohm coils or reduced wattage 4 ohm ones which I am sure you don;t want to do...

whoa whoa ok hang on, sorry danxstreme don't mean to steal your thread but i've got a crunch gp2500d and its a mono amp with two speaker outs. if i wanted to present a 1 ohm load with two subs, would i need two 4 ohm dvc subs and wire the voice coils in parallel to get 2 ohms and then just connect each to its own speaker out to get a 1 ohm load? or would i need to wire each in parallel and then wire the speakers together in parallel and connect them to one speaker terminal?

Yes the speaker terminals will be bridged inside the amp. So hooking them up like this will indeed present a 1ohm load to the amp.

Thanks Nick, now i feel smart . and to John, i've looked at so many of these diagrams to try and figure it out but the one thing that always confused me was a mono amp with 2 speaker outs, only because most of these diagrams utilize either a multi channel amp or mono with only 1 speaker out. but thanks for the link, these Elemental Designs guys are really helpful, i've pretty much watched all their videos on youtube, including the one showing how to set the gain on an amp

Interestingly they are pulling a lot of subcontract work (offshore as well) back in house and are investing in machinery & new buildings too. They are big on designing stuff.
The products are not for everyone, but I'm happy with them. I'd like to try some of the HT stuff one day.
If you phone or email, you stand a good chance of getting a design engineer or maybe Ben (owner) on the line.
It will be interesting to see how they hold up if thier product really takes off.
Anyway, I had the same confusion as you at one time. understood the wiring fine, just couldnt get my head around the one channel two connections thing
Cheers
