I have been messing around with car audio for 20 plus years to but its my electrical background that gives me the advantage on the wiring part. Electricity is electricity.... it all follows the same laws.

If you want to save some money on speaker wire, you could wire them that way.

Two 4 ohm Single Voice Coil woofers wired in parallel will give you 2 ohms, then wire that to one speaker terminal on the amp. There are two terminals to make things easier for wiring, but in some instances its not necessary.

Also, in one of your earlier posts you mentioned that running the amp at 4 ohms was a problem because its not rated for it. You should know that a higher resistance is actually easier on the amp. With increased resistance you have less output in wattage. You could run your amp with an 8 ohm load on it. The only problem you'd encounter is that the output would be reduced quite a bit - probably to about a quarter of what the output is at 2 ohms.

thats what my dad says (he's an electrician), and every time i think of something and he tells me its wrong i try to convince him otherwise and then asks if i need to see his masters license again lol. i will say that talking about wiring with a pro when your drunk is hilarious, if anyone hasn't tried it you should. warning: don't actually wire something, just talk about it. electricity will kill you. and if it doesn't it will certainly hurt

just wondering, who said this? i know about the whole resistance thing so i'm worried it was me

Or should I go 2- 4 ohm L7's (coils in parallel) bringing it to 2ohm per sub? With 2 subs I will have 4 ohms back at the amp, more than it is rated for?
This is quoted from Dansxtreme's first post in this thread.

Unless I misinterpreted what he's said here, it looks as though he believes that the 4 ohm is too high a resistance for the amp.

Sorry I was still trying to figure things out at that point, I was wrong. What I have decided to do is run 2- dvc 2 ohm L7's. Each sub voice coil will be wired in series, creating a load of 4 ohms per sub (2 ohms + 2 ohms). Once back at the amp, the terminals are wired in parallel, reducing the incoming load to 2 ohms between both subs.

Now as far as bringing in a higher resistance to the amp, I thought I had to bring back the same load as the amp was rated for. But now I understand that I can bring a higher resistance back, at the comprimise of output wattage of the amp. Therefore, I would like to bring back the 2 oh load to get the most out of the amp.

You got it, that should work out well. Let me know when you are working on the install if I am free I would love to help out.

Not too long ago I was green around the gills at first also. Sometimes it takes a while to wrap your head around different concepts, but once you "get it" and can put it in action, it makes you feel "special".
This forum has been immensely helpful during my quest to gain knowledge while piecing my fiancee's setup together.

I wish I had this place available when I was doing to same for my own car, cause I would have spent my money more wisely the first time around.

I find it handy to keep a Digital Multi-Meter around when wiring the subs/voice coils together. That way you can ensure your connections are giving you the resistance you're after.

Good luck.

Very good advice guys, and you are right I am little green around the gills lol- it takes a while to figure out how everything comes together. Its funny because I have built a few boxes and have installed 4-5 systems but never considered matching the subs with the amp. Now that I think of it, I don't know how they even worked lol.

420- I will let you know when I start the install, I have decided that I want to put the car in the performance world/ darknights car show at the International Centre this March so hopefully before then. Again, thanks for the help man, I appreciate it.
