X-Over frequency for tweeters

What frequency should tweeters be crossed over at? I'm curious as I may want to get rid of my passive x-overs and use the high pass filters on my amps and I want to see if I can avoid putting caps on the (+) speaker wire.

Thanks.

PS If I DID need to put caps on the speaker wire, which ones would I need to get?

Look at the T/S specs of your tweeters and look up the FS frequency, multiply by two. This is a pretty good guesstimate most of the times to give you an idea.
Or as Tom has mentioned, look at manuf recommendations.

And yes you can get rid of the passive x-overs. You need a good active x-over box for it. Some amps might do it, but you probably will need a bandpass (both lp and hp) on midbass, not many amps do this afaik.

As the previous posters mentioned, it heavily depends on which tweeter you're talking about.

Good advice df.dima.

One thing to keep in mind though...some amp x-overs at difficult to set accurately...also the x-over slopes are usually pretty shallow, 12dB/octave.

I use a phoenix gold MX2 active xo. Set to 4.2 (approximately).
My alpine deck has the hpf set to 100, so i'm not putting bass into the mids.
If you don't have the HPF, you can use "BassBlocker caps" available at most car audio stores. They're worth about 25 cents each, but you'll pay 10.00 at best buy.

Thanks guys. I'm using Nak mids and tweets although I have no idea what the specific data for the components actually are. I may try to go with something more generic and see where I end up.
