my alternator *may* not be putting out the rated amps as it's going on it's way out.

during a heavy bass song (ludacris - blueberry yum yum) it will drop to 13 volts at idle.

i need to hook up a DMM to the amp directly to see what it's getting though.
Thats what I thought. That amp is only pullin mabye 70 amps. Your alternator should easily keep up with that unless like you said it is almost toast. And 13 volts at idle is normal. It should go to 14 when you rev the enjine. Well I guess you can't do anything exept put in a new alt. What type of car do you have?. I wish I could slap in a new H/O alt but they don't even make them yet for the genesis coupe. Curious to know the dmm results.

03 sunfire. same here. the older sunfires could have their alternators rebuilt for HO but mine is a stupid French one so i would need to mod a HO in. doesn't help that it's a bitch to get at either.

Your cap needs to charge up and then discharge repeatidly. Your cap shoots out its wad in 1/2 a second and then has to suck more juice to fill up again. What a bunch of garbage caps are.
i did some testing and without the cap on a heavy bass song i dipped as low as 13.55v and with the cap the lowest i saw was 13.68v so i'm leaving it in for now until i get more wire installed.
