Yuli I went to school for Electronics Engineering Technology ...thats how I know these formulas... in electronics and design these are real life formulas, in SPL they are actually quite accurate as long as you dont change your variables such as amplifier input voltage, obviously when you run a 1500 watt amp your voltage wont drop nearly as much as it will with your 3000 watt amp... and you will actually begin to reach limits of your subwoofer(s) with power increase and trust me I have done my design and test, everyone else calls it try-all(yes I know trial) and error...

doubling your power...even if it does actually double will never gain the theoretical 3db...try it on the meter and you will see...theory is good but as we all know in real life there are way way way more variables

The theoretical 3db gain from doubling your power is almost impossible. The only way that this can happen is if the efficiency of the battery, amplifier, woofer, and if the cabin and enclosure do not lose any of the rigidity due to the higher spl and vibration. This theory is exactly what it is called " a theory".

yes...that is exactly why I did write the word THEORY..I have come close a few times gaining 2.5db from doubling power..but at the same time I have come to the conclusion that at high SPL levels( I consider 160dB high nowadays) it becomes much more difficult to gain 3 dB without using 4x the power as that is what is required to make the cone of a subwoofer to move 2x as much which results in2x the pressure ..which will show only 3db gain ...agghhh lets kill this topic or I wont be able to sleep untill I drive back to the shop and play with my stereo some more..lol

theory is great... too bad 90% of the time in real life it doesn't work

it's funny though.. all of this because tom posted what 2 guys did for fun one day.. lol

yeah... damn you 2 guys... lol
but I do believe there was something to learn out here besides that the APX's will make YOUR(Chris B) car louder

that's all we were out to do.. see what made my car louder.. at this point we don't care why..

yes - it was a lower impedance, therefor more power out of my amp.. but how much more? who knows

I wish I had my dual 1 ohm quantums, but they didnt come.. so for now we'll have to settle for this

SO THERE

lol

since when is this doublinig power and gaining 3db? u will NEVER gain that. u have to double power AND CONE AREA to gain 3 db's. i dont know what the heck buddy ment when he said u gain 3 db's in amplifier output, that makes no sense to me. BUT every time i DOUBLE POWR AND DOUBLE CONE AREA I gain EXACTLY 3db in my jeep. 147.6 with 1 12 and one D3, 150.6 with 2 12's and two D3's and 153.6 with 4 12's and 4 D3's. i have done this with my very own jeep on my very own meter. NOW PROVE ME WRONG.

PS. Assmaster can kiss my ***. i thnk i proved all the theories in here wrong b/c NO ONE mentioned doubling the cone area. HA
