now if u really knew wtf u talking about u would know that any half decent sub would perform relatively similar in an extreme class application. anything from the pioneer to the DD sub will work nearly as well in extreme with minor differances. 98.5% of extreme class is box dependant, gear hardly matters as long as its not total . but i bet u will tell me im wrong.

Yuli,

DD has top plate vent channels and a vertically cut / highly cross-drilled pole on the 9500 series. I would assume you were aware of this? These create ALOT of air noise rushing through these small holes. They don't just use a pole vent -- which is what most normal subs do use -- they have all kinds of holes and channels drilled and cut in the motor. This is what makes their long term power handling so good, lots and lots of cooling... their pole vent is also fairly small, which creates more pressure to be forced through these holes. This is great for cooling but creates tons of air noise.

I have owned six DD woofers. Two of each 9510s, 9512s, and 9515s. Helped my brother compete in nSPL with the 9510s and rode right beside them for many multiple hour long trips. If you honestly can't hear it over the music... take one out of the box and play it free air at high x-max, I guarantee you'll hear it then. Now... take something else, say an SI Mag, play it next... it will be 100 times quieter from the motor as it has a highly radiused pole vent and no cross drilling / channels.

anytime i try to argue with u over something it always happens to be something silly, first your amps and now holes in DD motor. Yes i know how DD motor is and yes i still believe it is one of the best sound SPL oriented subs.

if u can actually hear the air comming out of the holes u are talking about i'd have to say your sub is messed or something really wrong with your box.

haha......OWNED.
Thanks for the welcome Jordy, normally I'm not too confrontive until someone deserves it.
And Mista Lifik, if I knew what I was talking about?? Oh yeah, you're the one saying the SoloX's and BTL's are shitty spl subs.......where do you come off saying I know nothing about spl when you make comments like that. Like I said, research is your best friend.

where do i come off sayin this? cuz i know this. how many finals have u gone to again? do u honestly think i make this up? like really? or do u feel better agreeing with some guy who hears noise commin from the holes in his motor while the sub is installed in a box?

it really doesnt matter to me. i'll just go win another trophy and u make another useless post. then u can sit there with your friends and talk about how "if prolifik can win imagine how well I would do".

have u ever seen how fast and how easy a Solo X shatters?? why do u think they have field ready recone kits available lol.

Calling me an idiot isn't discussing something with me... it couldn't even pass for arguing with me. It's an asinine statement.

They aren't terrible sounding other than the air noise. Which again, as I stated before, would not be a huge issue in a trunk or a good distance away from you rear firing in an SUV. In a forward or upward firing box without something in between you and the sub it is painfully obvious that the sub has terrible air noise. I've owned six of them and listened to stacks of them in customer vehicles, this has been the case for every single one I've heard.

This air noise doesn't affect the response characteristics of the woofer, this is true, so it can still reproduce the signal fairly well. Did I say that it wasn't accurate whatsoever? I didn't, I said it had horrendous air noise. Now, if you would have made an actual statement or response to me I would have went on to say that besides the air noise it really doesn't sound all that bad. The 9510s in my brothers truck sounded pretty good when turned down to blend with the fronts -- but when they get moving the air noise is awful.

You do good in comps, congrats. But dude, there's only the two things you've said that make me confrontive, that's the face that you call sundownz an idiot when he runs his own company and makes his own subs. He's gotta know a hell of a lot more than you about equipment and designs pro's and con's. And two, it astounds me that you say FI and Kicker suck for spl. Dude, research some of their builds. HOLY CRAP, two words, STEVE MEADES. Yeah, I'll admit, I admire his work and he swears by FI as well as numerous other competitors so how can they be wrong when they're hitting 150's on music, NOT TONES. Just convincingly tell me why you've made these two comments and I'll shut up, k??

i have an suv, i have no clue what noise u are talking about. i've never heard anyone say anything like this before regardless of what they drive or how hard they play the subs. something is either wrong with your subs, your box or you just have an "out of this world" hearing ability.

Calling me an idiot isn't discussing something with me... it couldn't even pass for arguing with me. It's an asinine statement.
asine statement for an asine individual

first of all Steve will do same numbers with most of the brands out there that are made to handle power so his install says nothing about any of the brands he runs period. I dont know how long have you been following his work but he seems to swear by any brand that he ever ran in his car. I can do over 150 playing music in my jeep with a box and 3 12's (instead of 4 18's or 15's like Steve) i dont run Fi, does it mean whatever i run is way better than Fi???? not really.

I have seen kicker solo x cones shutter one after another and after another and after another at finals with people standing by ready to put another field ready recone on it, just to take it out a few burps after and put another recone on. yah they did ok numbers but must have went thru a month woth of cone supplies in about a day.

if there is one thing i learned doing spl it has to be DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. in this sport being skeptical will save u from lookin' like an idiot at a later time.
