Every time a frequency is halfed (or is it halved?), the amount of travel the speakercone has to do, (excursion) has to double: in order to produce that frequency at the same volume level.. or am I wrong? I think thats how it goes, anyway. Thats why I think 150DB @ 100HZ is EASY, its 150 DB at 30 or 40 that I find very impressive.

but i dunno if it would be hard to hit a 150db at 150hz?? that's a pretty high freq, and most daily cars res freq don't peak much higher than 55hz? so even at 150hz it would be cool to see.. unless of course you are doin extreme, then it would be easier to do.

of course, even though it would be fun, Im not crazy enough to compete in an SPL comp trying to beat everybody else, while Im only at 35 hertz or so, but if anybody could dish out 150 DB at that Freq. Id be VERY impressed. The low tones are very hard to reproduce. Mine can do 18, but just barely, thats.... when of course I smell that V.C. burning. My box is tuned for Low notes, so without switching subs, I'd probably get slaughtered in the lanes. I cant wait to compete, though,... first time!

all i know with one single sub even in extreme it would be super hard to break 160db mark ,and yes the lower the freq the more brutal the bass will be. anything higher than 80hz can be possible with enough power providing u have lots of recones on hand

not so much recones. in extreme, a 160 is actually very very common. most are up around 163's and higher now.
reason why you don't need more recones is because your whole car or enviroment for the subwoofer remains the same, and are not many variables to effect the woofer. unlike in street applicaitions where everything in your car moves, and nothing is really solid, and there are lots of variables that effect spl!
i think this year alone i (loudest street B vehicle) blew up 11- 12inch subwoofers during the compeition seasson. on the oither hand the loudest canadian extreme vehicle (team riprock) only went through i belive 1 set of recones for a whole season which spl-ing over 165db's!!
