X 's Cargo build off...
#1
With all the talk earlyer this year did any one build an system? I know the event was cancled and all.
The reason I ask is this inspired me to build an budget system for my Explorer. Martin and I built a street "C" box and hit 139+ with the 6 10's and 100w. Wasn't teribly loud for that much gear but ok.
Next I went shoping and purchased 6 1/2 ( $30 ) and 5 1/4 ( $20 ) components for the doors and an 8 ( $40 for an pair ) in the factory box. I had used the Mini's old Pioneer head unit and factory amps from the Explorer. The factory amps have 60w to the 4 components and an wooping 85 to the sub. I added an crossover for $18 for giggles. Next I had taken 2 of those 10's and put them into an ported box and added an old Kenwood 360w amp ( $35 ). So for an investment of just over $200 it's complete with spare gear to boot. I did my best to purchase all from X's cargo and did - the Kenwood amp ( was to great an deal ). For the SQ in me I purchased all Ultra Linear products of similar line up ( the color was green like the Explorer ).
Now for the fun part I took it to a few events and got Alex my 10 year old to run it in Bass race and traditional Db fomat. He did very well in the race and hit 135+ in Db.For comparison we did 122 db withe factory 6 1/2 sub. It sounds great for the investment. Have spare gear but haven't busted anything yet. Managed to wire in PS1 and an Cube with DVD for the road trips to stop the are we there yet thing. Thanks for the inspiration guys.
Theres not much to see in pictures as It's mostly in stock locations and all. It was fun to build and run for the summer. Made an great system when going to work, camping or pulling Martins Civic.
