Basically I want my mid to play from 80hz up to about 4khz and my tweet to take over from there. The amp running my mids doesn't have an onboard crossover. (orion 3002)

^ you need a 3-way xover then.

Unless your deck has a decent xover for sub-high.. Also If your sub amp has aux. outputs and a decent xover you can do that to.

You need a bandpass xover or else your lowpassed mid will play all the way down to 20hz...

For most applications this isn't a big deal... but it can waste midbass power and cause unnecassary heating/power compression...

I think chev is suggesting using a high pass channel fed into a lowpass channel... but unless you can find a 3way with a lowpass sub setting at 4khz you would have to use a pair of 2ways..

Alternativly you could use a 2way active Xover with a pair of highpass Fmod passives for your RCA cables....

Or, buy an actual bandpass active Xover:

hpf from IVA-D310--->Mid
lpf from audiocontrol 24xs--->Mid
hpf from audiocontrol 24xs--->tweeter

The tweeters and mids will each have their separate 2 channel amps.

 

yeah...I think I can deal with buying a half dozen 5 cent resistors when I want to change the xover point...Now I just need to find a way to fit those beasts into my door...

 

Iam pretty sure you will want to use non-inductive wire wound or metal film resistors..

using cheapie carbon resistors will mess with your response curves...

Better order a bunch from digikey..

 

They reccomend carbon or metal film resistors with a +-5% value.

 

Try to find a used PG AX406 crossover. It is three way with ***** under a protective cover. It too uses chips for different x-over points. It has a built in Low pass level control plug for a **** to mount up from (LPL44). Variable phase, Highvoltage in/out, built in line driver, and is 24db/oct Link/Riley slopes.

Ebay or on a forum is the place to look.
You may want to try finding a used audiocontrol 4xs too....just a thought.

 

Local Radio shack(The Source) should have 1% carbon resistor. For SQ, it is hard to beat Audio control. I find on board crossover and deck crossover lacking in detail.
