Hi All! I'm from India and my company (10 Octaves, www.10octaves.com) represents Illusion Audio as an international distributor. Well, one might say Illusion is down, but certainly not out.

We carry the whole line of Illusion products; subs, comps, mid-range drivers and even the compression horn drivers from the Carbon (Nd) as well as Luccent (Im) lines. In a lot of places the Im is mentioned as Lm. I believe that it is IM > Inverted Motor and Nd > Neodymium although both the series have both, inverted motor and neo magnet. I agree that they aren't the cheapest speakers, but the sound is so phenomenal that it seems to justify the price even for Indian buyers, usually regarded as low spending types compared to other parts of the world. And in any case, they weren't designed for deaf morons who would prefer a chromed backplate or a X-over box designed on the lines of the latest spaceship. They simply cannot be compared to any of the other attempts at designing a speaker with a neo magnet, whether inverted or conventionally mounted. It is also not as mechanically imperfect as one of the contributors makes it out to be. They are very rugged and withstand far more than the rated power. There is no basket or any other construction material resonance and the speakers weigh a mere fraction of a simliar conventional product. SQ is definitely the biggest strength of the Illusion line-up, but trust me, the Nd12s and 15s can get blisteringly loud too! I have heard of Iasca competitors using them and winning.

I dont think Solen carries the complete component sets and from the part nos. I am also forced to believe that the carbon (Nd) series is the older one (with a black basket). This is now replaced with the Nd-i series which has a grey basket and a damping ring around the magnet to eradicate some minor response break-ups.

In my opinion, the Illusion audio speakers are a steal even at the price (what compared to Alpine F1, Dynaudio, Focal and Rainbow Car Audio!) The Carbon series is the most amazingly flawless component speaker set I have heard at upto twice the price. The Carbon series employs a 1st order X-over (boy those drivers measure flat) and you can image like a *beep* even with compromising mid-driver positioning, thanks to the Low-Fs tweeter which crosses over at about 1.2 kHz. And I love it whenever I can have a 8" component in the front playing down to 60 cycles without a whimper (dont try this at home, well car, without a generous dose of Dynamat).

The subs are clean, extraordinarily responsive, high on sensitivity and mind-bogglingly quick. In my opinion it is their speed that sets them apart from the other high moving mass kind, sluggish subs with exaggerated excursion and bicycle tyre tube surrounds.

If any of y'all want to buy Illusion, I say go for it. Of course, the only other alternative is to buy a cheaper set of speakers and reserve the rest of the money for some ear plugs.

Cheers,
AJ
