Best 12" SQ sub

OK I know this has been done time in and time out...but if you care to take the time to post please do.

In the past the audiomobile mass was considered the best....and well now comes the real challenge....what else is considered to be amongst the top (money is no object). Now you probably will say go listen to each one and find out which one suits your preference. That requires time, and well it would be worth it in the long run, some subs would probably be impossible to hear in town.

Focal, Image Dynamics, JL, perhaps even JBL have some pretty delicious subs on the market. Has there been any controlled reviews of recent of these subs, to determine the king?

If not, let me know what you have, and why you like it for SQ - I really don't wanta hear about SPL.

I chose the AVI SLS-300 12" 4ohm in a sealed 1.4cf wedge box driven with a JBL PBX 500.1 because this sub is able to hit just about any note the HU can pre-out it's way, plus when you want to throw some super quick kick pedal hits, this sub will keep up, very quick and very musical. My sub took about a month to break in fully, but when it did, wow! I am now running 2 SLS-300's in a divided box at 1.1cf each and at 2ohms with the amp paralle bridged. Nice!

Check it out for yourself at http://avisound.com/

Previously I had a Boston Acoustic 12.5 LF (same amp). Another great musical sub, however this puppy didn't last as it only has a 2" vc and I let the smoke out! Gain was a bit too high, my fault. $500 learning curve... ouch!!

Diamond Audio TDX. Sounds less like a sub and more like a front speaker but of course at subwoofer frequencies. Very accurate and can handle lots of power, which can be good for SQ purposes.

I would have to agree with the boys above. AVI is the only way to go.

Money no object, Velodyne 12".

More realistically:

IDMax
IDW
JL W7
JL W6v2
DIYMA 12 (ECA guys are all over this thing)
Seas Lotus
ScanSpeak Revelator
Morel Elate
A/D/S/ 310PX
A/D/S/ 312rs
JBL WGTI
TC Sounds
Diamond D9
Alpine Type X
Arc Flatline
DLS
AVI
Renassaince Audio Cannon
Focal BE
Focal Kevlar

Umm, I'm bored of thinking, but there are probably another 50 good options out there. Depends on application and what you expect.

Sealed/ported/freeair/ib?

Pure SQ at SQ levels, or maintaining SQ at higher levels?

Box the size of your trunk, or small?

Why is that, and which 12", is there a specific model. I remember hearing one about 8years ago at future shop, and it didn't sound great at all.

As for my setup, it would be in a sealed box around 1.5 cubic feet

Would be interesting to try a home Dynaudio 12" for SQ setup.

Anyone tried this?
