Vifa domes Suck?

[QUOTE=dawgsbreakfast]2.5" DLS mid dome........ ok. Nice when space becomes an issue.

3" vifas........... sucked. Only 3" mids that I've seriously messed with personally.

Hey dawgsbreakfast.
How did they suck? Where where they mounted? What cross over freqeuncies? Did you use a rear chamber? I am thinking of using them but dont want to make a mistake.
Thanks.

OK so this is but I had a quick skim through the 2005 IASCA rules and the 2005 USACi rules and I couldn't find anything about modified equipment at all I could have missed it.

I know back in the day IASCA had rules about amplifier mods (only) and they would land you in the Pro 1000+ class. These were the days before expert or the new Street and Ultimate and stuff.

How did they suck? Tonally, sounded like crap....... nasally *****-y crap.

Where where they mounted? dash

What cross over freqeuncies? don't remember. Was a 3-way setup.

Did you use a rear chamber? nope

I don't have the model number but this was many many years ago. I don't even think this 3" is still available. So don't worry.......... possibly....... not sure.

^ Oh they still make it, just "improved":

D75MX41 3” dome midrange
Vifa 3” dome midrange
Precoated fabric diaphragm
Low moving mass
Internal ferrite magnet
Very linear impedance
Flange 152m3m
Cutout 120.7mm
Depth 31.5mm

I dunno - IMO it only looks semi useful between 500hz and 2khz..

It's cheap though

I just got the reply from Moe Sabourin of IASCA...

Originally wrote by Moe Sabourin: in SQ, you could compete in the Semi Pro Street class, or any of the Street or Ultimate Pro classes. depending on how the vehicle you’re using is modified.
I guess I'm pretty much in the clear..........

Hey Joe, in the quote from moe, he wrote that stuff in relation to the old power classes. With the rules changing for this year, do you know if he is aware of modifications that will change your class, or all they going to be the same as last year?
