Where are you located!?!??!? I'd be more then happy to show you how well A-pillar mounted tweeters do work and how you can get a killer centre image without a centre channel........... but with driver location and some time alignment.
Damm I wish I could meet ya, but your like 1500+ kliks away from me, do you have picks of your pillars, what did you do for allignment purposes? Lazer Level?, trial and error? All hints would be great. Ultimatly this would be a nice way to go:http://www.sounddomain.com/memberpage/191175/9, but I think thats not what Im after. I have a truck like this 1, but mines a silverado. I was thinking of putting the centre channel just a few inches towards the firewall (above my H.U.), using a grill from a Grand Am/ Grand Prix (95-96 ish) recovered ofcourse, with a 4" mid and (2)tweets?? Anymore input?
Use the window like a wave guide. Aim the tweets so they parallel the curve of the window plane. Then you can adjust the height on the pillar to suite. I also have a 2.5" mid up on the dash........ and a very strong and defined centre image. Mind you, I wouldn't goes as far as to say it's perfect, but it's is good. And it still needs to be fastened in and tuned properly. So I'm pretty happy.
I believe it would depend on the staging you get when you place them. I'm after opinions as to how well it will work. I fell that I'm missing a little in that area as well, and i just want to fill the front stage in a little more, to get that "full stage" type of sound

I'm on my 3rd set of tweeters in 3 days. You could say that I'm trying everything that's possible with positioning. The bottom line is that you've got to experiment. Every vehicle and the components installed will interact differently.
What dawgsbreakfast is recomending works for him. It may work for me too, but keep in mind that he is using a totally active front stage with time alignment on every driver. My next step is installing another amplifier and time aligning the midrange and tweeters to see how that helps.
I don't think that running a center chanel is going to be as easy as doing a stereo setup well. Every time a piece is added to the car, it complicates things.
Now...where can I find another Audison VRx amp to do more testing?

Thanks for the input guys, but I found a solution to my problem. I had the chance to try out a piece from Clarion the other day, and I will be going with that for my center channel. Its a 1/2 din speaker (self powered) that sounds awsome. Fits right in under my deck with a new mounting kit, and kicks ***!!
