I have heard many systems with enclosure's in their doors and only maybe 2-3 being vented. One of which has been Dave's car. Dave, no offence but I got more influence from the sub on the dash than I did from the vented midbass in the doors. I did however find the tonal accuracy of the mid very good. Not sure if that was the enclosure, the processing or the design of the speaker itself. I think the same effect can be had by making a proper sealed enclosure in the door.
The whole debate on this depends on the speaker itself and not its enclosure. If you have a speaker that is not designed to be in a vented enclosure (which 90% of midbass's are not) then it will sound like poo. On the other hand, if you have a driver that is designed for a vented enclosure (which many home audio speakers are designed) then it will sound terrific. USe the speaker for its intended purpose and you should be able to achieve optimal sound from it.

And if you take a look at the mids on the market right now, very few of them will play well with a vented enclosure. Most are designed for IB or sealed.
It's no 15 min task sealing up a door, or enclosure in a door. At least not in any vehicle I've ever touched.
How can you accuse Dave of overprocessing. The beauty of F1 is the quality is so high you need less processing to make it sound right.
