Title: RAVEL, DEBUSSY, SAINT-SAENS.
Label: CBC.
James Ehnes...violin,
Wendy Chen...piano.
These 2 amazing musicians once again combine their talents and efforts, resulting in a superbly recorded cd consisting the symphonies of 3 great French composers.
The violin used by Ehnes is a Marsick Stradivarius of 1715. The violin is 289 years of age and it sounds gorgeous.
The piano playing by Wendy Chen is mezmirizing, and when the two are playing together, it seems as though the entire soundstage widens dramatically.
Incredible sound quality.

I'm a big fan of 'A Perfect Circle'. I use it with my Home Theatre demo's (I sell some really High End stuff like B&W, Rotel, NAD, HK, Wharfedale). You can really see how the channel seperation, the vocal dynamics, the midbass presence, the bass response...
It hits harder than most rap crap in my car, too

Title: Jacques Loussier Trio, Baroque Favorites.
Label: TELARC.
This beautifully recorded cd consists of baroque music from 300 to 400 yrs. ago, but the way Jacques Loussier and company do it is very original to say the least; they are a jazz trio. The compositions they play on this cd include works from the likes of Handel, Marais, Pachelbel, Marcello and Albinoni. It doesn't sound like baroque style of music at all on this recording, and infact, sounds very much like modern day jazz.
TELARC has once again done a beautiful job by allowing the Jacques Loussier Trio to do their thing in the studio with minimal interference. The sound is of fantastic quality. All of your speakers; subwoofers, midbass, midrange, and tweeters will get a good workout.
Recording took place from June 4 to 21, 2001 at the Studio Grande Amee, Palais des Congres, Paris, France.
Jacques Loussier: piano.
Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac: bass.
Andre Appino: drums.

Title: The Gaudier Ensemble, Schubert Octet.
Label: Hyperion.
This is a beautiful recording of Franz Schubert's (1797-1828) Octet in F major. Listening to this cd, it is apparent to me that the Gaudier Ensemble have done their homework and came well prepared for the recording. They must have studied the life and times of Schubert as they play his music with the utmost grace and finnesse, revealing Schubert's happiness and sadness through his airy music.
Recording took place at the Henry Wood Hall, London England, from Dec. 21 to 23, 2001.
The Gaudier Ensemble is:
Marieke Blankestijn: violin.
Lesley Hatfield: violin.
Iris Juda: viola.
Christoph Marks: cello.
Stephen Williams: double bass.
Richard Hosford: clarinet.
Robin O'Neill: bassoon.
Jonathan Williams: horn.
