Buwalda's probably pulling the same old trick...running Focals and keeping it a secret.

And yea, I wanna know what Gumby's talking about too. WTF was that about?

I've had the chance to listen to many of Scott's cars. And all were nice. I liked the Altima at the 03 finals best. The Hybrid product is good no question (yes I've heard it). But install is by far more important then product.

Agreed, Focal gets way to bright in the upper ranges. I listen to mostly blues, rock, and jazz, and they were by far the best sounding speakers for what I listen to. Frankly, they suck for "rap" but pure R&B sounds amazing.

I was also impressed with the Hertz lines but I found the Polyglass to be clearer and crisper, while the Hertz stuff had a warmer sound: it just blended the mids a little too much for my taste.

They key is definitely to listen to a favourite track on different systems, and find what sounds right for you. Everything has a unique sound, and perhaps Focal isn't it, but Diamond or Rainbow or whatever has just the timbre you're searching for. Take your time and you won't regret it!

Not all Focals get bright in the top end, the older stuff like the TN-51's and 45's definatly look a bit "peaky" on the RTA and are a bit bright, but you should see the TN-52's on the RTA...pretty substancial difference...but who cares what the RTA says....anything can be bright if not intalled properly, a good ear is far better than a well calibrated RTA any day.

Focal's are great speakers, but can be a little bright. I really like they're Polyglass subs and am using one myself right now.
I would recommend checking out Dynaudio, hard to find but worth a listen. Alpine used Dynaudio for their top end components for a while back in the 90's.
I've used Macrom's in the past which were made by Morel. Great speakers, especially for the price.
