I would not choose passive over active in a car. But if he is going to use passives, why not help him out with it?

^ I can buy that... active will help FIND the correct cross-over point and slope though I suspect (opinion no proof) the passive may sound a smidgen better

Its to expensive to run active after the amplification stage VS passive. However, before amplification I wouldn't do anything but active. Actually, I would just get a DSP board and program the filter I want.

btw, building Active and passive filters are really easy. The hard part is finding the right components for the job. Then again, easy is subjective. I've been designing them (passive and active) for the last year of my electronics degree.

I just installed my Hybrid components into my show car.

The mid bass is spectacular! It's so punchy, tough, strong. I turned my filter down to 25 hertz and cranked it up to almost 3/4 of volume. These are very impressive.

The 3" that are in my "A" pillars are pretty sweet too. I'm giving them 100 watts a side and the take it well. They are set from 250 to 4000 hertz. I need to spend more time tuning them, but so far, I'm very impressed!

I don't have any Focals in my shop to compare them to in an apples to apples enviroment and I'm sure that they would sound great too, but for the money that I didn't have to pay for these, I'm really happy.

See you at the next sound-off.

I'm glad you are liking your Hybrids. The L3 and L6 is in my current setup - no complaints. My L3 is in my A Pilar too and it's sees 7.1k @24 db - Try that, hopefully you will hear a big difference.

What tweeter are you running? If you can bring them up to 6500k-7000k at 24db - trust me....try it

I'm still running my DD tweeters at 1.25k & up. It was suggested to run the 3" from 125hz up to 7000hz. I will be playing with those points later on today....
I'll keep you informed.

How do you actively filter after the amplifier?
