Front stage help
So Im stuck between 2 sets of components, the polk audio signature reference series and the alpine type x's. I havent heard them yet but I plan to get out to some shops to hear them. Going off the reviews though it sems the polks are way better but I would like to get some opinions. I would also like to know if there is a big difference sound wise between 5 1/4 and 6 1/4, and I will be amping them.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you are going to put them in your doors and 6.5 fits, then go with the bigger set. More output and they should be able to go lower.
I can't comment on the sound of those component as I have never heard them.

I have owned both sets and I think the SR's are better. The tweeter is larger and has a 'warmer' sound than the Type X tweeter. The SR crossover is beefier too and the midbass plays slightly lower than the Type X midbass. The Type X is still a decent sounding set for the price but you'll be happier with the SR's in the long run. Make sure you listen to both though as your preferences and mine could be completely different. Also, they are both fairly power hungry. Give them minimum 150 watts per channel. Run active if you can!
edit: always go 6.5" in a two way set if you can. Midbass for the win!

the new type x pro speakers are way nicer then the old type x speakers they changed the whole tweater construction and made it way larger also the cross overs are far superior to the last years but the polk sr componants are also verry nice they are farly close for quality it all comes down to sound and what sound you prefer the type x are a litlle brighter and i agree that the polks are verry warm and natural sounding but i definatly recomend 6.5
