How 2 tell if a Tweet is out of Phase
How 2 tell if a Tweet is out of Phase
Hey guys...... Im just wondering.....Im just finishing up an install of some Focal VRS shallow mount 6.5 comps...... And i swere the high end sounds muffled ...Im thinking maybe the tweets might be out of phase wired up back wards...there was no markings for _+ on the tweets just a red line on one side of the wire that is factory soldered on them.....do you think Focal uses the standard ...As in the side with the line is negative....
thanks....Sounds mighty Newbish But you never know how those french are thinking..

... the goal is to have the sound from each driver arrive in phase (the phase the recording was made at) at your ears. This may require swapping phases of individual drivers in the car to achieve but to answer the question...
out of phase tweeters are tonally OK (not quite right and cant really describe it) BUT the imaging is destroyed when it is out of phase ...the sound instead of filling the front stage tends to localize near the tweeters. swap the phase and see what I mean.

hmmmm thanks for the replys.... yeah its just i dont remember seeing any lines on the tweeter wires on my set of K2P..they indacate on the tweet itself..but i know the normal code is the wire with the line on it is negative...no i dont have a IASCA disc...no they are not ebay focals lol.....And actually iam very suprised of the sound though..Never Tryed any comps in the pollyglass line...But wanted a shallow mount mid in this install.... I figured they would be nowere close 2 my set of K2P in a previous install..Especially in the midbass output and clarity at high levels....But i must say very impressed, but I put alot of work into the doors Deadning and sealing.. running off a Focal 2.150
I didn't address the muffled sound...
I generally don't think muffled when I think Focal so something is wrong, I assume the previous speakers didn't sound muffled. So most likely it is a wiring or a speaker issue. swap out the speakers (yeah I know a lot of work) and see if the old speakers STILL sound unmuffled if they sound good then I would say the Focals are monkeyed up. If they do sound muffled then you have to check everything upstream including the wiring (which is the most likely point of failure).
Frankly it sounds as if one or both tweeters aren't getting a signal
