How can I make my subs punchier
I tired out 2 12' Alpine type R's in my car for about a week and they were VERY punchy and sounded quite good.
When theyw ere in my car they were crossed over at 85hz lowpass with a 24 db slope.
Try that out and I am sure you will get good results from those subs.

Once the x-over point has been raised, I would look at the enclosure. You shouldn't have to go ported. Sealed boxes can have a fair bit of impact. I would agree with what was said above, try to reduce the box volume a bit, and see if it makes a difference.
What is your x-over currently set to?
Another thought: How are your subs positioned in your car? (facing the rear, front etc?) Sometimes changing the orientation/position of the subs can make a world of difference. Also, what vehicle is this in?

Are these the 1241D's ? If so, I ran them through BassBox, it suggested around .7 cubes per sub for a fairly flat response, that is in a box with lots of polyfill.

I was able to get them sounding pretty good. I actually lowered my crossover on the amp to about 75Hz (24db/octave) so I can still play with the 12db/octave xover on my indash EQ to different music. I am using a little bit of boost around the 50Hz mark. (I've got a parametric EQ on the sub (40-60Hz) This all done it sounds really good on classic rock, (floyd and stuff). and on the newer music I have just determined that it is all sh*t and I should just listen to classic rock only and rap when I wanna look cool for the ladies (j/k). My subs are rear facing in my 98 prelude in a 2 cube (common chamber) prefab box that I siliconed and stuffed a little. With the speaker displacement that only .84 per woofer. Could the common chamber be the problem?
Thanks guys
