I'm not sure what you can do with 5.1 car audio systems. My only experience is in home theater, and there they have coded into the DVD what signals will be sent to what speakers to create a 3d surround sound field (I realize everybody knows what 5.1 DD or DTS is, I'm just trying to differentiate). But what could help you is the capability for you to choose what signals are sent through each channel. Assuming the 5.1 (essentially 6 separate channels) outputs from your Head Unit are pre-amp'd RCA signals.

You could have your output signals as follows:

Channel 1/2 = Left/Right signals, about 800hz HPF to feed the passive crossovers for the Diamond Audio's

Channels 3/4 = Left/Right signals, about 80hz HPF & 800hz LPF to feed the Mid Bass drivers

Then you have Channels 5/6 for either stereo subwoofers @ 80hz LPF or one of the channels for mono subwoofer and the other for mono centre channel

I'm guessing that you probably can't manipulate the 6 channel output of your 5.1 unit but like I said I've never used anything like the Alpine H701 or what you have.

These are just ideas and of course the freq. mentioned are just for arguments sake, hopefully it helps.

Well, after ALOT of reading, checking gear etc, I may have figured out how to do a 5.1 with the gear we have , minus one centre channel speaker.

Do this sound right...

- 5.1 HU
- front channel on Soundstream 5.830 from front HU RCAs - 150 total wrms to DAT 662's (mid/tweet) in pods on bottom of doors, running HP filter at approx 180hz
- rear channel on 5.830 (running on split front HU RCA's) - 150wrms total to Orion MB6 midbass , in pods in same location as DAT's in door - running LP filter at 240hz
-sub channel on 5.830 - using center channel HU rca - op to 270wrms to 1- Orion MB6 in small enclosure, between front seats, on floor, angled up, reflecting off dash. Filter at 240hz

So that I have figured out... just need centre mids and highs
Thinking---
- For the centre mids/highs..alpine sbs-05dc center channel speaker. Nice looking unit, fits in dash. Only take 50 wrms though. but it would be clean and easy... Will run this of a 2 channel kicker impulse 2x25 amp

Sound proper?
Any opinions on the alpine?
