i got that deck (the panasonic)...its really not that bad, mind you i havent played with the alpine...the only reason i would buy it is if you got one hell of a deal on it (like i did)...its not loaded with features but it has the simple stuff, sub control, and other very basic controls...main features of course are the touch screen and the cutomizeable display, which is kinda cool if you want to match the dash or something, it does have a very functional remote and the little movies it plays are cool...on the downside of cosmetic things, it has glare like a mad bastard in the day, and gets tons of finger prints (comes with cleaning cloth )...those are all cosmetic things, which is the focus of the deck...but as far as SQ is concerned it does sound alot better than some of the other lesser panasonics (yes i have tested them), and it does come with a dc/dc convertor, which i am told only comes on higher end decks and has 5V preouts (non-fading sub)...but as for the alpine, it would be nice to hear from someone who has tried them both, if such a person exists...o yeah, the tuner is pretty good to, gets me reception with my in windshield antenna

Get a Alpine unit with a built in V-drive amplifier, that way you will have a little power to play with without having to buy a external power amplifier.

Are you looking to power your front/rear speakers with an external amplifier? or are they going to be powered by the deck?

Right now I am running the built in power of my Alpine (7894) to my Crystal 6.5" components up front, and it sounds pretty good, is fairly loud and clean up to around 22 out of 35 on the deck.
