i posted this in SPL and jordyo told me to try here. i think i have my new box all figured out all im wondering is if i should go witha 4" or a 5" slot port tuned to 32 - 40hz. ANYONE with any suggestions chime in. the box is 7.2 cubes before displacement. thats all i have in the hatch to work with. if i go with a 19.5x4x38 ill have roughly 5 cubes total. that will bring me to 34hz of so.

Why on earth would he tell you to try the SQ forum?

I think this belongs in Install if anywhere. But I'm not a mod after 4 years of being here so my say means nothing

And just so I'm not off topic too much, anything over 3" will be great because you don't have to deal with port noise. I believe also, the larger the diamter of the port, the longer it needs to be for lower tuning.

Mostly because he was originally asking for help with a box design for more of an SQ type of system.

He already has a competition box, but wanted more of a daily driver. So I suggested he tried here

I figured someone in this section would be able to help him make a good sounding box!

Ah, I didn't know the whole story.

Bigman, don't loose faith, we don't all read every post right away, sometimes it can take a while to get a helpful response.

Just so, everybody knows, what is it exactly that you're aiming for? Jordy says maybe more of an SQ set-up?

just need a box thats tuned lower and thats not so peaky. liek i said before the box is tuned to 46hz and im aiming for 35 with this box. original question was about the port width. 4" or 5". i think i may use 4" because it will make the box larger.
