Preout Voltage

Im piecing together my system, i have 2 amps both rated for a 4v input, but my question is, if i used a deck with 5v preouts, am i going to kill the amps?

Is the signal a constant voltage or is it linear with the volume?

The amps are nakamichi if that makes a difference, i know they are solid but im not sure if they can handle it.

Any info will help thanks!

You should be fine, you can overload (clip) the input if you overdo it but it will distort the sound and you should hear it.

i have had some amps go in to protect b4 when sending a higher pre out voltage then rated for but no damage done

Wouldnt that be because you exceeded the max output of the amp, I am not aware of any protection for input stages?

I mean it would be as easy as putting in an overvoltage limiter
