Single 8" Subwoofer Suggestions....
Listen. I'll get rid of all my high end and buy a half dozen Audiovox 18's and 30,000w of Pyle power along with a Ford Tempo and put you all to shame at the next 'Bass Nationals'.....LOL. After seeing some of the cars on 'SPL TV' on Youtube, I can't see it being too difficult to atleast compete
It's not my fault that you are not familiar with the equipment I have been talking about. Do some homework on the amplifiers I commented about BEFORE you tell me that I don't know what I am talking about.
Just quit twisting everything I say around to suit the opposite of your argument's standpoint.
Last I checked....Subs don't clip...LOL
I've been doing this for about 20 years now and have never cooked a sub due to shitty clipping power, so I guess I do know that much.
Perhaps I like to run lots of power because it really makes no difference to me and I simply consider it 'insurance' of sorts. I really can't recall the last time when things like 'budget' or being 'thrifty' led me to choose less power than I knew I should have.......which is the #1 reason behind most people's choices as it seems. I don't have that problem.
You really don't understand my SRx vs LRx reasoning ? IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE EXTRA 150w POWER DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 AMPS.
My SRx is a 2 channel mid level amp, my LRx (this part of it) is a high end mono channel.
They could be 100% identical power and I would STILL choose the LRx to run the 12.
Noise floor, impedance, dampening factor, class, current, efficiency, duty cycle.
YES, I HAVE TAKEN IT ALL INTO CONSIDERATION.........

anyone?the score in my sig came from 2 hours of work (3 years ago), for the hell of it, because I had a few SPL-oriented goodies sitting in my garage collecting dust from years past. my car is usually full of some rather nice SQ gear, but I thought I'd switch it up for a few days for a friend's SPL comp.
but nice try.
"Noise floor, impedance, dampening factor, class, current, efficiency, duty cycle" - relevance????
it honestly looks like you just did a google search, found a website that discusses amplifier topology/function, and wrote down some big words to make yourself look smart. too bad it has no relevance....
FYI, this is a discussion about subwoofers, not amplifiers

I've also been playing with car audio for 20yrs or so, and also have had my share of "high-end" SQ (and SPL) gear in my vehicles. I'm pretty familiar with Audison gear, it's almost as common as Pioneer in Calgary. if you want a pat on your back, for owning Audison, go ask your wife. LOL, I just helped a buddy install a SRx amp in his Audi last weekend....
nobody cares about the brand of your amplifier, "budget/thriftiness" or whether it's a bridgeable 2ch or monoblock. it's the wattage you plan on running, in relation to power handling, that is relevant to this discussion on subwoofers.....a point that you continually ignore. you want great SQ, high power handling, from a small sub/enclosure? Hoffman's Iron Law is getting in your way.
there is really only 1 subwoofer that even comes close to what you want it to do - the 8w7. you've been told by several people here that trade-offs will be needed if you insist on running a single 8 in a large vehicle, stop ignoring them. it's great to have headroom in most cases, but IMO there are better/wiser subwoofer options that should be considered.
Why do you set your infrasonic filter above tuning? Usually you don't need it until a half octave below tuning - unless the enclosure or vent are way oversized.
Dukk-the OP mentioned horn-loading the sub, don't you think if he knew what he was talking about, he would realize he probably only needs 100w or less to power a 8" sub used in a t-line and not the 650w he has?
I think at some point most people go through the phase where they think it would be cool to have some funky box and then realize why nobody does. No use denying him that process.
Lesson Learned:
It's better to be a broke-*** who covets what they will never own, yet can model it all day in a piece of software with nothing but sour grapes and time on their hands to read everything they can, learn everything they can about it all and look cool, than the guy who can actually afford and buy the equipment he wants and is called stupid at every turn for doing so, by a bunch of jelous children....LMAO.
All I wanted was a recommendation for an 8 to play with - not all the rest of the bullshit that everyone seemed to need to throw along with it.

Let's start out by saying I'm not a "broke-*** who covets what they will never own", but we'll come back to that.
I modeled subs for you to prove a point, that you don't know what you're talking about. I was right too. You ARE right about the fact that I DO read everything I can and learn everything I can. I DON'T do it to look "cool", but to avoid making stupid mistakes that it seems you are more than willing to do.
Since you obviously have more money than any of us "jealous children" can dream of, why not just buy the JL 8w7? I mean, you obviously want it (as stated in your first post) and YOU are the type of person "who can actually afford and buy what he wants"...so just get it already. No need for suggestions from us.
As far as my financial situation and what I own/have owned...you don't know the first f#cking thing about me (except that I obviously know more than you). I have owned your precious Mille subs, a *rare* Pioneer sub (ts-w12prs), the *super rare* 4" Pioneer midranges to go with it (ts-c101prs), Morel Supremo Piccolos (to go with my Morel 9" midbass and 5.25" midrange), an Alpine H701, a URAL CDD (ever heard of it?), a Sony C90/4000x combo (with the optical adapter), a DRZ9255, and a Pioneer P01. This is all in addition to the (3) Zapco DC amps being controlled by a CUSTOM Rockford Fosgate RFX-8250 head unit in my current build. I have never (and normally would never) "flex nuts" on all the gear I own/have owned, but I'm not going to sit idly by while you basically call me a "broke *** child".
Waiting patiently for your reply "professor money bags".
REVISION: I'm not waiting for you're reply. I could care less if you reply. I have publicly shown I know more than you and your ideas on what makes "SQ" and how speaker power handling is determined is wrong in previous threads. I have also now publicly defended that I DO have experience with real-world, high-end products and therefore I'm not just a "keyboard warrior". I have nothing less to prove, and, other than calling me names like a "jealous child", you can't call out anything else on me.

If you can afford the equipment you want, why
Just shell out the dollars, that you can obviously afford and buy the equipment you want.
...constructive advice...quit being a tool!

why on earth would you try to strut around an internet forum, acting like you're the only one who makes good money? there are dozens of "broke asses" on this forum who own subwoofers and amplifiers that are FAR more expensive/rare than what you're running. that's like going onto an enthusiast sports car forum, and thinking you're god for owning an A6. seriously, wtf?? are you dim?
news flash: you're hoping (somewhat desperately it appears) that we're treating you this way because we're jealous. here's reality - most of us simply don't like douche bags.
as you go through life, I'm sure you'll find this to be a universal phenomenon.....
