Sound room
#101
ok so how I understand this is, the thicker and more dense( but not reflective) the material used the lower the frequency it is capable of absorbing? if im only concerned about high frequency absorption then the panels dont need to be very thick.... how do I determine the thickness if I know the frequency?

That's a complicated question. Different products will have different absorption factors. Thicker isn't always better because density plays a factor too. Some products have absorption ratings that you can probably look up online. The mounting position of a product can also effect how much sound it absorbs. I will be going over some of the methods I'm to control sound in my room, but I'm not far enough in the thread to do it.
Diffusion panels may also help your problem, but we are getting a head of ourselfs.
My suggestion is simply to experiment. I know this isn't an answer, but when you have limits laid down by your better half, it makes cosmetics and space issues paramount.
Do a search for absorption coefficients and/or STC ratings. It might help you to know what some of the items you have around your house will do in you movie room.

Lots of work is going on, just not in the theatre. I have about three weeks until my energy audit is done, so I need to concentrate on that. I am doing some behind the scene work that I will elaborate on in the future. Give me a little time and the update will start again.
