SQ improvement with ARC SE Amps
LOL Ya, you're right. I'll most likely get banned if I go any further with this one. I'm out
No doubt some will sound different but they are simple and easy to identify reasons.... I can make the same amp sound different to anyone. I can make this amp sound different by doing something, AND I can make it soud different by doing nothing at all.
I don't beleive in psycho acoustics. Just easily manipulated listeners. I have more experience with high end audio than most, so I can tell you that not all electronics sound the same. Much of this is done on purpose by the designers. It gives a brand a characteristic sound that they can call their own. Imaging and staging are not easy to manipulate however. So if my new amplifiers help make it better, than I'm a happy camper. And they did. You might then tell me that I could just move my speakers around or change a setting or two to get the results I received with the ARC amps, and I probably could. But the fact remains that the difference was there and it didn't involve moving anything. I would like you to list what those setting are though. It's easy to tell me or anyone else that upgrading electronics will not have a positive result, but it much harder to prove the theory.
Fozzz:
No it's easy to prove that there are or are not differences and what they are if they exist.
The hole sound curve that designers put in their amps... would easily be tuned out by someone such as yourself rendering it nill anyways. It's simple FR manipulations IE EQ.
Not believing in Psychoacoustics? hehe I didn't know you could choose not to believe in it.. I suppose one could chose to believe that the sun revolves around the earth to... or in any religion... or close their eyes to any science. This doesn't really lead to anything though.
The things that matter are few:
FR
Noise floor
Power
distortion
Now is it possible that one amp will not have perfectly matched channel pairs? Sure
Is it possible someone builds in a specific FR response to get a specific sound ? Of course (amps bilt in EQ adjustment, even set to zero might not truly be zero)!
Are some amps noisy and others more quiet? Definitely.
I would gather most amps aren't perfect in these categories... but I will also say that probably most amps will be good enough that human hearing can't tell the difference.

John, is simply pointing out his amps change made significant difference in his car. If you don't like his opinion fine. But don't come back here with your narrow minded Test comments.

ya i got to go with you on this one.. i really respect john and his world class status as having the best sounding car in the world and really want to compete against him and his build but i dont like the smoke and mirrors of better sq by changing the amps.. sorrry just cant grasp that..... knowing how an amp is built, its just not possible... the speakers and placement make the difference in sound not the power to the amp... so if you changed your hat speakers to say pioneer then i would say ya much better sound but remember your ear cant hear ac waveforms, thats why the amps ac signal is changed over to a mechanical transducer that can take a non audible sound and make it into an audible sound.... now.. that being said.. i due believe that if you would have measured the ac output of each channel of the jl amps and compared them with the ac output of each channel of your arc audio amps, you will notice a difference, which would explain why you are hearing a different sq sound.. and this will have nothing to due with build design but more with ac voltage output... just a thought,. ps that was a shameless plug for pioneer... lol...
