sub that'll put out good sq and spl

Hey. I'm looking for recommendations for a 12inch sub that'll do both sq and spl. Something that I can crank and beat on when I want to and will sound nice at lower levels. I'd like it to be clean and tight. I know the amp I use makes a difference so a good recommendation on that would be helpful as well. Would like to use just a single 12inch sub. I've heard the JL 12w3 is good as well as the cerwin vega stroker. The more opinions the better. Have only ever had 1 sub and I think it's time to upgrade to something nicer.

I have JL Audio W6's, they sound great and hit pretty hard.

IDMax

Any amp putting out 500+ watts will do just fine to get them moving.

anyone hear anything about the clarion ssw1001? 800rms, 10inch 4ohm dvc. There's one at a local car audio shop wondering if it's worth the 400$ price tag?

Yes, it doesn't compare to the IDMax, W6, and even those that Sonic listed in the second post.

The JL is a decent product, but poor value. Do some google searches on the other products listed. You will be surprised by how good some of those brands you have never heard of really are.

ok so the clarion is not worth it in your opinion? Better off going with the JL or something else? I'm going to get this all together in the near future just want as much info as possible before I go drop over 1500$ on a sub amp and box. I'll assume custom boxes are the way to go?

no, i've heard a few of those clarions, and have never been impressed.

personally I'd hands down recommend the IDMax. I have run W3's and heard plently of W6's too.

Custom box is the only way to go. Prefabs are just convenient. If you are dropping up to $1500 on a subbass setup, you don't want to half *** it though on the box (which makes a massive difference in your outcome).

Really, you don't need to spend that much though. Power is cheap nowadays, and when it comes to substage, just look for a reliable class D.

Before you start dropping $1500 on a substage, what is the rest of your system like?
