With regards to listening, people just don't "have it" through osmosis. Yes, some people hear things better then others, but the best judges constantly are teaching themselves about what things are suppost to sound like. You have to be constantly listening to good music/sound, just like an runner constantly has to be training. If your doing that, then you have the right to boast that you "MAY" know what sounds good/right. And I say "MAY", as once again, no two people really hear something the same way.

I understand what things may sound like but I don't think at this time I have the ears to tune a vehicle properly BECAUSE I don't spend/have enough time to constantly be training my ears. I'd have to leave that to someone else or spend some time retraining myself.

And with regards to car audio, it's suppost to be about having fun and meeting people........... sharing ideas. When it becomes "I'm better then you" or any of the other biatching matches, just not worth it anymore.

well put, dawgsbreakfast.......

When I competed back in 1990, the thing I remember the most was the people - fellow competitors, dealers, reps, etc. I also had the privilege and honour to judge at a few IASCA events back then. Hearing others' systems and being able to discuss it with fellow judges was enlightening. I remember an instance when some no name young kid came out to an event with his POS car and system - the SQ of his system blew away all the competitors - even the ones with thousands of dollars in brand name equipment. BTW, does anyone recall the Godzilla station wagon back that competed in the West Coast back in the 90's?

^ Yep. That was one nasty install IMO George Basco right? I remember it at a show in Edmonton in 1992 I believe it was. Had 4 15s in a wall, 4 10s I think below it. The weirdest looking door pods complete with stained plywood as an armrest but the amp display in the back was kinda neat with the Rodek amps looking like big military warehouses and a train track rolling around it, helicopter on a string, tanks, etc.

What was more intriguing was that it actually sounded pretty good.

George was a pretty nice guy. His station wagon got a lot of double takes. I think he was trying to send a message.

Getting slow enough around here to dig up 3 yr old threads, eh Joe? That would be quite something if that was true about that car getting higher SQ scores. Was that with RC's GN or the Caddy?

Well, it has been a while..... but i'm pretty sure if you could find a copy of either the Iasca newsletter, Sound Challenge or CA&E mag etc. with the final coverage. Its in there.. (there's one has the scores in categories) i believe it was in the imaging. I'll try to dig it up... i thought everybody knew that.

and that was with the GN of course.
