This is the kind of set up I'm looking to do.

 

It looks very nice, but the imaging will be way off. You'll want to try angles before you mount them permanently in the pillars. We usually make a template of the speakers and maneuver them about to determine the best possible angle. Then, tape them into place until you find the best way to mount them. It doesn't always look pretty and hardly ever symmetrical, but it's fantastic!
