You wanna hear a really great tweeter? Try the SEAS Excel tweeter....I heard it in Anthony Davis's car, and I loved it. The whole set is so smooth it's not even funny but the tweeter really completes the set...another to try is the new Morel Supreemo's(sp?) I'm hearing a lot of great things about them..supposed to be around $400US.

I've currently got a set of these in the car.

VIFA XT25TG30-04

Kind of interesting design. I thought people would be amused by them.

if you can fit a massive tweeter, then your choices are quite broad

but if you need a compact tweeter then look into these tweeters ... I'll rank them as I personally prefer them:

1. Rainbow Platinum tweet (I say best compact tweet on the market)
2. LPG tweet (I forget the model number) ... super cheap and amazing performance
3. DLS Iridium Tweet
4. DLS UR1 Tweet
5. Dyn md100
6. Vifa XT25

if you can fit larger tweets, then you have much to choose from and from the ones not listed above and from what you say u'r listening preferences are (laid back) then check out the Dyn MD130/MD160 (not sure the model number, but thier top of the line tweet)

535 or 537 should rock. They are also my choice, too. $40US you honestly CAN'T go wrong.

Edit: Had to make a correction, 537 instead of 538.

Scott's car sounded really nice with the DLS, but in the end just about anything can me made to sound good with the right install and tuning
Something I've always preached, although there are limits to the abilities of some types of junk.

For everybodies benifit:

Mark, what is the difference betweent the Iridium tweeter (comes in the Iridium 6.3 and 8.3 kits) and the UR-1 tweeter?

Yes, Dynaudio makes great stuff. But, right now I've got some ideas I want to try. I just have to scrape together the money and get wife approval for it.

Hint: 4 way with domes.

Nothing. The Iridium components and the Ultimate Reference components both use the top of the line DLS UR1 28mm tweeter. I think MB may have meant the DLS UP1C tweets for number 4, although I'm not 100% certain. His personal preferences tweeter wise are different then mine................

I too am in search of a tweet but all the good stuff is at extreme prices. Reading through this post, I see many interesting suggestions... in who's car can I listen to the DLS's locally? Tom? Hehehehe... Mark?

Anyhow, I spoke to Brian Campbell at the Focal booth at CES - great guy - and he said the beryllium tweets will trickle down to the Utopia car line, but probably not next year he says. Right now, the Utopia line tweeters are being surpassed by the new kevlar line units as they are actually revamped TN51's - says Brian. As for purchasing them on their own, Focal will not sell unless you're an authorized JM Lab dealer and are fixing blown Be tweets (which btw need to be shipped back to JM Lab as part of policy). I agree with Adam (pei) that the 51's just can't handle the power and sound quite harsh at high levels. The vifa XT's you (Adam) have is actually the tweet I was inquiring about in my other thread below - dual concetric type drivers. I figure it was the budget version of the new scan-speak units. From my understanding, they don't seem to be good enough? Do you think you could elaborate on the sound of the XT's?

Listening to Plow's bmw, I've noticed that his scan-speak revelator tweets have incredible off axis response, and it's the sound you would get from a home system... airy and open. I've considered experimenting with using home units but it's hard to get reviews of ppl using them in cars.

So anyone using SEAS drivers in TO? Interested in hearing those too.

Sorry for the long post...
