Upgrading Factory Speakers and Wires
Hello All.
I'm wanting to upgrade my factory speakers in my truck, and also the wires as well.
Right now I have a Sony head unit in there and would like some better sounding speakers.
I just want recommendations, for good quality speakers, with good bass response, and an overall good sound. Also, a good set of wires as well.
I have a 2003 Chevrolet S-10. There is 6.5" in the doors and 5 1/4 in the dashboard.
I'm in the GTA, if anyone in the GTA could recommend a reputable place to purchase this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

No point in changing the wiring unless you are adding an amp. If you are trying to get some respectable sound, a four channel amp is a great place to start. This will provide power to the speakers that your cd player just cannot. It will bring the speakers to life. After that a set of 6.5" component speakers and a single sub. A nice balanced output, good bass response and not overwhelming output at the same time. Budget wise totally depends on the investment you want to make into it. Tons of options to choose from depending on your investment.

I would be interested in adding an amp later on down the road. However, for right now, I'm just wanting to get a better sound out of the speakers. I would like good bass response however though.
I'm not looking by any means at competing, or anything, I'm just looking for an overall good quality speaker, that will give nice sound. As I mentioned earlier price isn't a factor, as I'm willing to spend money to get good sound.
The reason I'm thinking of replacing the wires right now, is that I believe they are shorting out my speakers. I don't play my music that loud and I have had both door speakers blow twice in less than 2 months, though I guess it is always possible, I just had 2 bad speakers.
The wiring will be fine. If it were a wiring issue the cd player would go into dead short protection and you would have no sound. The issue here that you have is that you want too much from too little. You have blown two sets of speakers this way. That is expecting the most they can get by giving them the least they can get. Your amplifier in the cd player is struggling to produce 15w of power at full output. This is a far cry from the 50 that is advertised on the front of most cd players. I could sell you the most amazing speakers in the world and you will detroy them as well.
You need an amp on these speakers. This will eliminate many problems that you are facing right now. That is a lack of output primarily which is leading you to destoy speakers. A amp will allow you much more safe control over the speaker by allowing to play louder with a far cleaner signal at all volume levels.
Change the speakers, sure, great idea. Now we need to get you to understand that the speakers do not blow all on their own, you are the one that causes them to. Add me to MSN if you like, forbidden@telus.net and we can discuss what is going on in your setup.
